Re: Pumper Carb Help

Hi, Yes, they are VM28s. What you see in the picture is the bottom of carb #2. I am assuming there was never a check valve fitted as there is no hole down the centre of where the check valve diaphragm pin would fit so I am assuming that's how it came from the factory. Its the 10.8mm setup on the pum...

Re: Pumper Carb Help

Thanks for the reply. I thought #15 and 102.5 are the stock jets for the pumper carb setup for that year and model of bike with the emissions paraphernalia . Its what the bike originally came to me with, so is this not right? Maybe its why I cant get it setup right.

Pumper Carb Help

Hi all, I have never got my USA import 1980 Z1000 B4 LTD to idle right but once off the pilot jets it goes like stink. I have gone back to basics with new #15 pilot jets and 102.5 main and needles. There are no air leaks and the air suction gubbins is all in place. However, according to the Clymer m...

Refurbish Jardine Exhausts

Hi all, I am looking at getting the original Jardine exhausts re-chromed on my K1000 1980 LTD. While I was mulling this over I was wondering if it was possible to also get them repacked to improve the gas flow and sound. Has anyone done this or is it the stupidest idea in the world? I want to keep t...

Sorry, meant to put mis-firing on 2 & 3, but then I am sure you know what I meant!

Thanks again for the pointers guys. It was deffo only firing on 2 and 3 originally as starting from cold the exhausts pipes on 1 and 4 would heat up too hot to touch in about 10 secs whilst 2/3 were only just getting warm. Changing the fuel though did have a big effect although with all the fiddling...

Well, I checked all the electrical connections to the coils (these are new by the way) and cut off the old ones and soldered on new ones on. Checked the pickup coils and the mechanical advance. I then convinced myself it was better. Then I convinced myself it was now spitting on all ALL cylinders. I...

Thanks for the replies guys. All good stuff. I am going to check all the wiring and see if anything is a miss from the pickup coils and the IC Igniter. As suggested would be good to swap out the carbs but its an expensive check as I dont have any to swap it with. Will report back any findings!

Misfire on 2 & 3

1980 Z1000 LTD B4 (Electronic Ignition) HELP! Well, I think it is a misfire.... Looking down the trusty color tune you can see it periodically and what can can only be described as "spits" or misfires(?) on idle and only on cyls 2 & 3. Not all the time but enough for a lumpy idle and p...

When I got the bike all the fuel hoses were cut off so I had no idea how they were supposed to go. As the brass outlet seems to look right I ran a single pipe from this to a "Y" connecter that then split the fuel off to both pairs of carbs. The mystery outlet I just left off as it was pain...

Had a look over the weekend. They both join up inside the body of the tap just inside. You can see by poking a bit of wire in each outlet. I am going to feed one pair of carbs off each I think and see how I get on.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Here is a photo. The brass outlet is round the back and obviously connects to the carbs. The "mystery" outlet is the grey job pointing skyward (it rotates 360 deg) capped off with the pipe and bolt combo. I will check the tap knob as suggested by Gus. Would be good to know its official tit...

Fuel Tap Help.

Hi all, Regarding my 1980 Z1000 LTD B4. Now I have it running I am going back and looking at a few jobs I "bypassed" to get to where I am. It has a manual fuel tap which I rebuilt with a new seal kit. This has a brass fitting I connected both carbs to using a Y connector as well as another...
