Kawasaki KZ1000 1978 A2 for sale
I have owned this bike since 2007 and spent much time and money keeping it in great condition. It has twin front discs with modern material rotors, so she actually stops. Lots of re-chroming and a four into four exhaust which makes it look as it should have left the factory. Wheels rebuilt with stai...

Re: Spitting misfire
Problem found and all very silly. I had fitted new fuel pipe obtained from Z-Power which is black and flexible (to replace the clear stuff that had turned hard as nails). The issue was that the pipe bend became a kink when the temperature rose and the fuel pipe became even more flexible i.e. a few m...

Re: Spitting misfire
Thanks for that and yes, valve clearances just been done. I guess the rubber intake boots don't last forever - do they become porous?

Spitting misfire
Stripped and sonic cleaned the carbs on my KZ1000 and rebuilt with kit from Z-Power. Fitted K&N pod air filters. Got air jets from zed1015 and increased main jets from 107.5 to 112.5. She fires up and runs really well except for a spitting misfire when cold and coming off choke. This goes as the...

Valve shims - one final question
Following-on from my last thread where I was having trouble using the shim tool - this was faulty and the replacement works a treat. It's my first time doing this job but following chrisu's guide it is going well. I have found four clearances less than 0.05 so calculated what shim sizes I needed to ...

Re: How do I use the valve shim tool?
Replacement tool arrived today from Z-Power - works a treat! They were really quick to sort it too. Good on you - making your own.

Re: How do I use the valve shim tool?
Hi Kev - yes I'm using it correctly but mine has no cut-out at all. Z-Power say their recent supply looks different from what they have had and are sending me old stock.

Re: How do I use the valve shim tool?
Many thanks for the pictures CAT3 and everyone who has tried to help. This all confirms that I am placing the tool correctly. However it is clear that the tool (in the middle) is not the same as the original Kawasaki tool. Z-Power are sending me another one which differs from their latest batch. Wai...

Re: How do I use the valve shim tool?
Thanks for the suggestions but sadly I have already removed the cam cover gasket so that's not the cause of the problem. Very simply I cannot fit the tool so that it reaches the lifter bucket - so it's not able to do its job. Any other ideas welcome.

Re: How do I use the valve shim tool?
Here is the tool Z-Power sent me. It looks exactly the same as the drawing BUT appears to be too small to reach the valve lifter. It fits but does not hold the valve down.
Is it possible that what they sent me is for a smaller bike - do they do one for the Z650 for example?

Re: How do I use the valve shim tool?
Thanks and I get the idea of the gap being at the larger end of the scale. However, I still don't know what I'm doing wrong but the Z-Power tool does not appear to reach the bucket to hold it down. There must be a technique?

Re: Torque settings
Yes, 1340 FXD is because I also own a Harley - now 20 years old and having done over 100,000 miles touring Europe and while it vibrates, very little has actually fallen off along the way! My Kawasaki bikes are 1974 H2B, 1978 KZ1000 A2 and recently sold a ZX-7R P7. It is the official manual which got...

How do I use the valve shim tool?
I'm doing my valve clearances for the first time and referring to chrisu's guidance post plus Kawasaki manual and Clymer manual as well. Having checked the clearances, four are comfortably over the 0.05 minimum but under 0.1 so I'm OK with them. However I need to remove four out of the 8 valve shims...

Torque settings
I'm getting a bit confused over torque settings between the US Kawasaki service manual and Clymer as they appear to slip between inch-lbs and foot-lbs without warning! I work in Ft-Lbs so would like reassurance of the torque values for: Spark Plugs Camshaft cap bolts Camshaft chain tensioner bolt Cy...
