Z1000 gearbox bearing

Hello, I was looking for the NSK BL305N high load bearing used as the gearbox sprocket bearing on some '70s Z1000s. They're hard to find and expensive (up tp £120) but I've found a supplier on ebay. It's listed as 'High Performance NSK 11 Ball Yamaha Banshee Crankshaft bearing 87 99 06 tz tz' priced...

Z1000a Big bore head gasket

Hello,

the Z1000a I'm rebuilding has been fitted with a big bore kit so that the bore is now around 74mm. Is there a big bore head gasket available which will fit this?

Cheers, MikeJ

Z1000 neutral finder

Hello, I'm rebuilding a Z1000 engine and have assembled the cases with the gearbox. Selecting first is o.k. but it won't select the upper gears, which I presume is the 'neutral finder' doing it's thing. However, the Clymer manual says it should select the higher gears if you spin the output shaft- I...

Re: Z1000 output bearing

Hello, thanks for the replies but I'm not talking about the peripheral circlip groove, rather the cut outs in the races adjacent to the bearing balls. I'm thinking that they may be there to pump oil away from the oil seal, but they seem to be on the wrong side for that and there's a spacer between t...

Z1000 output bearing

Hello, I'm restoring a Z1000 engine and the bearing behind the output sprocket has two cut outs in the bearing races. What function do these cut outs perform and are they necessary as the genuine replacement bearings are over £100 each and a similar bearing without the cut outs is about £20? Cheers,...

Hello Warren, yes, looking at it, it looks more like sloppy welding and I've had a professional mechanic look at it and he seems pretty happy with it. I guess even the Japanese have 'poets' days! It's probably a Japanese built bike as it was registered in the U.K. but it may have been imported at so...

Z650 frame

Hello, I'm working on a Z650 frame from the mid '70s at the moment and have noticed that the lateral frame tubes don't seem to be aligned. For instance, if you look at the frame from the front, the cross member under the steering head is at an angle to the cross member in front of the upper shock ab...

Hello,

thanks again for the info. So long as I can get the cam covers off that'll do nicely,

Good luck with whatever you're making at the moment,

Hello Hardcore, thanks for the information. I'm currently fitting a set of empty cases into the frame and making possible engine plate shapes using cardboard to try to get into the right area. If the engine is level in the frame, will it be possible to remove the cam cover to access the valves for a...

Fitting Z1000A engine into Z650 frame

Hello all, can anyone give me some info about fitting a Z1000 engine into a Z650 frame as regards checking valve clearances? I've had to tilt the engine forward to clear the swinging arm so the rear end is raised by about 1/2" but could be jiggled a bit as the engine plates haven't been made ye...

It's been said that the engine has to removed to allow access to the valves for clearance adjustment on a project like this, but is it possible to trim the centre lower mount lugs on the crankcases to allow the engine to drop in the frame to remove the cam cover? Or is it all just scuttlebut? Cheers...
