Re: 1979 T plate z1000

Thanks Dave. I did check eng/frame numbers years ago and think I recall it being a LTD as you say. It’s a great bike but I hardly ride anymore due to an injury. Have my Westie kit car for adrenaline rush but it’s not the same. Age creeps up on you I’m afraid.

1979 T plate z1000

Thinking of selling my z1000. Not actually sure what model it is but happy to discuss details with anyone that’s interested. Runs well, rides well and looks reasonable. 1979 bike that spent its first 20 years in the US. Think it maybe a LTD edition that was changed over the years.60 odd thousand on ...

Re: Tyres and tubes…

Thanks Warren. What I’m a little concerned about is that I thought the old rims were different and the tyre didn’t sit deep enough to seal and tyre flex can be an issue.. I’m probably overthinking.

Tyres and tubes…

I have a tubeless tyre to fit to my z1000. Bike has alloy wheels, tyre is tubeless. In my head I believe this tyre will still need an inner tube due to the age of the wheel. Anyone that can confirm or tell me I’m talking rubbish?
Cheers,
Ian.

Re: Fuel tap left in prime position.

Thanks for replies. Il get my lad to pop around then and close it. Hopefully a couple of days won’t have done any harm. Old age creeping up on me I guess...

Fuel tap left in prime position.

I’m away from my ‘78’ Z1000 for a month or so. I took it for a spin last week and pretty sure I left the fuel tap set to prime, stupid I know. Can any here advise if this will cause a problem? Cheers, Ian.

Spark plugs

Having spent the last few weeks generally cleaning and polishing my z1000 to within an inch of its life, yesterday I decided to start her up. No go! Pulled plugs and found a couple have a very weak spark. Checked them by alternating them on different leads. Conclusion is a couple of plugs are almost...

Fork ears.

Fork ears? Is that the correct term? Anyway, my z1000 has a loose one, left hand side of that matters. We I brought it it had jubilee clips at the top of the ear that held it tight, as I have loads of time right now I’ve took the clips off. Left hand ear is slightly loose, there is around 5 mm of up...

Tyres and tubes.

Looking to fit a new front tyre to my bike.T regd z1000. The current tyre is marked tubeless. The alloy wheel is Kawasaki 19” but isn’t as far as I could see marked as a tubeless wheel. Can I assume I can fit a new tubeless tyre, or might I find a tube lurking inside when I strip it off?

Clutch cable replacement.

Cable snapped. Have replacement ready and have removed the cover and old cable. Apart from a good clean is there anything else I should do before fitting the new cable? Cheers, Ian.

Misfire from cold start.

My 1979 z1000 has had a misfire when cold ever since I’ve owned it. Four years. Runs beautifully at all times apart from this. Problem appears come colder weather. Bike always starts easily, but will fire on three for the first couple of minutes, then all settles down and is fine. Have checked and t...

Re: Rickman inner tube

Hi Dunlop 4 ask your local tire supplier for the correct size and brand of the inner tubes. I'm sure he 'll be able to give you the appropriate advice. I hope the wheels are not made of magnesium, these only have a safe lifespan of 20 years. If they're made of aluminium don't worry. GrtZ Philippe I...
