Hi Philippe - just catching up on this restoration as I've not been on the forum for a bit.
Its looking good and you're doing a great job as normal It still amazes me what one man can achieve in a garage
Mark.

Re: GPz cam bolt thread stripped
I remember from years ago, the torque for these in the manual was wrong, too high. But I THINK it was the Z1100R manual, but might be worth checking as it's around the same era, just in case. The Kwak workshop manual states 1.2kgm (9ft/lb) and it always feels too much when I'm torquing up the bolts...

Re: GPz cam bolt thread stripped
Brilliant :D Thanks guys :up I already have a "Silverline" M6 helicoil kit, but the inserts are only 6mm deep (I think this is known as 1D ?). I presume I need longer inserts for the full length of the threaded portion of the hole - any recommendations on the length I need and suppliers ? ...

GPz cam bolt thread stripped
Hi All, Looking for some help/advice, please. After re-shimming the valves on my GPz, I torqued the cam cap bolts back down only for 1 to keep turning :( I'm assuming the thread in the head has stripped and I'm looking fora solution. I'm thinking an insert would be possible, but the issue I see is t...

Re: Time to rebuild my old GPz
Well, after 4 odd years of blood, sweat and quite a few tears, the day came to take my old GPz 550 out for a test ride. It's been 27 years since it last turned a wheel and to say I was nervous would be an understatement ! Apart from the obvious "how will it run/will anything fall off" thou...

Re: Time to rebuild my old GPz
The job for this weekend was to sort out the fuel tap leak after last weeks problems. As I previously posted, I ordered all the genuine parts after the aftermarket kit I fitted allowed petrol to seep through when not running. Checking the OE parts against the kit, there didn't seem to be much differ...

Re: Time to rebuild my old GPz
Hi Philippe - yes the tap was definitely assembled correctly
The new genuine parts have arrived and I'll fit those and see if it cures the problem.

Re: Time to rebuild my old GPz
Well, the last few weekends have been spent running through the list of "little" jobs that I needed to finish up. You know the ones - they should only take a few minutes, but somehow they take hours ! First on the list was to remake the leaking oil cooler line, which meant draining out the...

Re: Time to rebuild my old GPz
I think I've now found the cause of the issue, but still a bit of fine tuning to do :) Anyway, I re-checked the coils & HT leads and they all tested OK and within specification. I did swap the coils over anyway, just in case ! the plug caps were new, but I did swap them over too, but the HT lead...

Re: One cylinder running much cooler than the others on my GPz
Thanks to everyone who responded with suggestions & ideas - I think I've now found the cause of the issue, but still a bit of fine tuning to do :) Just to clear up a couple of points - It was definetely #3 that was cold and ,yes, I did count left-to-right while sitting on the bike :wink I'm also...
