Re: KZ900 Carb issue

z1bman - thanks for that - very interesting. So, took the carbs off again, gave them the once-over, fitted new bowl gaskets and lightly lubed the boots with a silicon grease before assembling and checked the boots were sat nicely before tightening the clamps. Fitted new plugs. She started beautifull...

Re: KZ900 Carb issue

That's an interesting one about the slide heights. I'll have a look at those later. Many thanks.

Re: KZ900 Carb issue

Many thanks for the input - much appreciated. The throttle cables are new and appear to be working really well. They snap closed very nicely. I don't think there is an air leak as sprayed carb cleaner about the place and no rise in revs. I'll have a look at the ignition advancer - that's a good call.

KZ900 Carb issue

Hello All. Any carburettor gurus out there? My 76 KZ900 A4 has a bit of an issue with tickover. I set it to around 1250rpm with the bike nicely warmed up. I take her for a ride and the tickover tends to jump to around 3000rpm. Give it a blip and some of the time it will drop back to 1250rpm. Plugs h...

Re: 1976 KZ900-A4 RHS caliper & disk wanted

Warren - I mailed Dave @ Saisei. Same as Z Power - no can do :(

Gonzo - that sounds excellent. I need to try to find the disc before I commit to it. Can you also PM me how much you'd like for it, please?

Re: 1976 KZ900-A4 RHS caliper & disk wanted

Thanks for that. I mailed Z Power earlier today. Phil replied saying they have neither the disks nor the calipers :-(

Re: 1976 KZ900-A4 RHS caliper & disk wanted

Ah - thanks for that. No, I wasn't aware. So, if anybody has two disks and two calipers they'd like to sell me....

Re: Idiots guide to setting up carbs

Paul J - I bought her last year from these people https://www.motorcyclesunlimited.co.uk

I think the restoration was carried out by somebody in Wolverhampton. I'd be interested to find out who restored her....

Re: z1 900 starting probs

Frizz - take a look at the top left corner of the attached wiring diagram. You'll see a dotted box with Starter Button and Engine Stop Switch. The theory of operation is that you have to have the Engine Stop Switch in the run position AND press the Starter Button to energise the starter solenoid. No...

Re: Idiots guide to setting up carbs

Thanks for the various bits of advice so far. With a little bit of judicious fiddling of the air mixture screws the bike is actually starting, ticking over & running quite nicely. The plugs are a bit sootier than I'd like them to be but perhaps that's a result of riding the last couple of miles ...

Re: Idiots guide to setting up carbs

That makes for interesting reading - thanks for the input. I'll buy a compression tester and check the compression. The air filter is slightly grubby so I'll see how the K&N works out. The Dyna S upgrade is quite interesting. I did something similar to my 1964 Volvo P1800S a couple fo years ago ...

Re: Idiots guide to setting up carbs

Hi there. Thanks for getting back to me. As far as I'm aware she's pretty bog standard. It's a 4:4 exhaust, stock airbox and (I think) standard 26mm Mikuni carbs. The thing that is most obvious with the issue is that if I gently open the throttle she almost cuts out. Give it a big handful is no prob...

Idiots guide to setting up carbs

Evening All A 'newby' here - so kindly be gentle! I always wanted a Z900 from when I was a nipper and, finally, I bought one a couple of months ago at the tender age of 54. It's a lovely looking bike - a 1976 KZ900-A4 that has been nicely restored. The only minor (perhaps major!) issue is the carbs....
