Re: Kz900 won’t rev over 3k

I thought I’d cracked it but these carbs won’t give in, I set the mixtures with a colour tune and things seemed okish. Very slight bogging just before the mains take over, but rideable, it’s perfect on mains pulls really well. The problem is that the screws are only 1/2 turn out on all 4, and the sp...

Re: Kz900 won’t rev over 3k

Thanks Kev, I was thinking I would have to pull the carbs out again.
Good news :biggrin

Re: Kz900 won’t rev over 3k

Quick question if anyone is still watching this thread, the bike is running ok now but I have noticed the vacuum caps between the carbs and the engine are full of petrol. I have seen this before but thought it would stop when I started riding it. Is this normal? Or is there still something wrong? Ma...

Re: Kz900 won’t rev over 3k

Ok to finish this thread, I’ve fitted Dyna S ignition system while I was waiting for the tank, I got the tank back today and it works, it runs lovely with no bogging at 3k revs. So it looks like I’ve cracked it. Thanks for all the advice you’ve given me, I don’t think I could have done it otherwise....

Re: Kz900 won’t rev over 3k

My carb kit are keyster as well, the needle jets may not be perfect but they seem to work. I’ve got mine ticking over quite nicely and adjusting the air screws up and down makes a difference. I still can’t get it out and try it properly, no tank yet, this corona virus isn’t helping :down

Re: Kz900 won’t rev over 3k

Hi Indie, have you checked if the needle jets are worn? I’m not sure how you check them but if they are too big they will let petrol suck straight into the engine, so with closed throttle you will get over rich mixture. As I said in my post I didn’t have any at all, so I was getting your symptoms to...

Re: Kz900 won’t rev over 3k

Good luck with that Indie, I hope it works after all that. I’m still waiting to try mine, the tank has been delayed until the end of March I just hope it will be ok, at least my air screws make a difference when I adjust them. I have noticed that when I weaken the mixture the engine overruns longer ...

Re: Kz900 won’t rev over 3k

Hi indie I still haven’t been out on mine yet, the tank is away being sprayed and the small tank I use for setting it up isn’t up to running it on the road. I’m hoping the tank will be back in a couple of weeks. Please keep us informed how you get on, I’m hoping mine is ok now but I wouldn’t bet on ...

Re: Kz900 won’t rev over 3k

I finally got fed up with these carbs and got a set of standard carbs for my bike, there were lots of parts missing from them but I had all the bits I needed on mine. So I swapped all the parts over to make a good set, but when I fired it up it wouldn’t run properly because it was over fueling. I th...

Re: Needle jets

Thanks Phillippe, I don’t have any old jets as the carbs didn’t have any when I bought them. I will be very careful when I put them in hopefully with no problem. Oh I see what you mean now, yes I do have an old needle. :biggrin

Re: Needle jets

Thanks, do you use a small bar to push them in? Or are your fingers very thin :biggrin

Needle jets

Hi all, I have a set of vm26 carbs for my kz900 but there are no needle jets in them. I have some to put in but I’m not sure how’s best to install them, do they just push in from the bottom up? Is it best to warm the carbs up first?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Nick

Re: Kz900 won’t rev over 3k

Ok quick update, I changed the mains to 102.5, fitted new needles and set them to middle position, set the slides and set the pilots to 1 1/2 turns out. I just tried the bike and guess what? It’s the same!!! Although now I can keep going and it seems fine after about 4k revs, so it’s just hesitating...
