Hi,

Is this the right tough black paint that is recommended by some on these forums for engine painting.

Re: New GPZ1100B1 project arrived today

I got the engine running before I stripped it so I guess the bits must have been in the bottom.
Still have to do a thorough inspection but no damage spotted yet.
Some chunks were quite big so very luck me thinks

Re: New GPZ1100B1 project arrived today

Engine now stripped. I'm looking for a new head instead of trying to fix all the butchered threads. The rest is looking OK. I've measured pistons, bores and rings which are all well within service limits. Still gotta properly check everything else The bottom of the engine was full of metal filings. ...

US import GPZ1100 maintained by cowboys

Today I started dismantling the engine of my new GPZ1100 project. The first thing I noticed is one of the rocker cover bolts was missing. Fortunately the cam lobe and bearing surfaces look good and also the half shell bearings There are however problems with the bolts for the camshaft caps. One cams...

Re: New GPZ1100B1 project arrived today

So I managed to get her running briefly before starting the strip down. Actually sounded quite healthy After a run, a compression check showed 3 were low with 1 only having 90psi The strip down begins: IMG_4097.jpg IMG_4126.jpg This project is going to take quite a while due to a lack of spare time....

Re: GPZ 1100 - first of many questions

Thanks, lots of good advice here. So, getting the bike running and riding it is not an option. Front tyres flat, brakes don’t work, tank although not rusty needs flushing and cleaning. Etc etc The bike did’t have a battery. I did the initial compression tests with jump leads from my z1000 but being ...

Re: GPZ 1100 - first of many questions

Thanks for the feedback.

I thought that not going into second when not running would be by design

Regarding the cam chain, I assume you can get one for the GPZ which is not endless and can be pulled through with the old chain then joined ?

GPZ 1100 - first of many questions

Hi, Today my new GPZ1100B1 US import project arrived. It needs a shed load of work and is an open book to start with. Exactly what I wanted, I didn't want a simple tidy/restore job. I'm very familiar with my Z1000A1 but never had a GPZ. I've just spent some time out in the garage bonding with the bi...
