Re: Misfire no.4 cylinder
Update. I took the Zed to a classic bike show, the bike ran badly all the way there. Chatting to a few about problem but no one came up with anything I haven't tried. Set off for home and about a mile down the road she spluttered and came on all four full power! Several ride outs since and all good,...

Tried a new o ring, didn't make any difference.
I have already swapped plugs, caps, coils which are all new anyway.
Went for a short run today, misfire still there until half mile from home were it chimed in and pulled hard. I will check plug condition and a cold start tomorrow if possible.

Do you mean the seal on top of the 14mm half nut? If so, no.

Re: Misfire no.4 cylinder
Yes, I sent the choke plungers away because I was convinced that was the problem. I'm losing the will to live taking these carbs on and off!

Re: Misfire no.4 cylinder
Valve stem seals tend to show after the bike has bee sitting ad oil has seeped past. Once you start it you get smoke until the oil burns off. Once that's happened they tend not to leak enough to show exhaust smoke. Are you getting start up exhaust smoke? Yes, smokes until the engine is hot and the ...

Will have a look at valve stem seals, can't think what else it could be now.

Misfire no.4 cylinder
All four plugs were fouling so new choke seals were fitted but no.4 is running cooler and still fouling. Went for a run last week after adding a drop of Sea Foam and fresh E5, couldn't believe how well she ran! Fired her up today and she was a bit lumpy so took her for a spin but didn't improve. No....

My black LB05F plugs are stamped 5K ohm so black plugs having no resistor is not a hard and fast rule.
Just something to be aware of.
Many thanks, I'll check.

Re: Coils. Resistors? Z1000A1
I remember when I was restoring an XL185 it has a "ballast resistor" connected in the headlight circuit. it was broken so I deleted it and just joined the wiring ends together , but then it started blowing headlight bulbs - turns out it damped down surges in voltage/ampage when revving , ...

W22es is equiv to B7ES if you want to go slightly hotter plugs.
Many thanks

Re: Coils. Resistors? Z1000A1
So as long as I don't use red caps with a resistor plug, B8RES, everything will be ok?
Black caps and Denso plugs is the way I'll go.
Thanks for your help.

Thanks a lot, I will junk it then. It's had its wires plugged together since....
Are there resistors in the NGK plug caps? What plugs would anyone recommend?

Coils. Resistors? Z1000A1
Screenshot_20240615_150443_Chrome.jpg Z1000A '77. Just in the process of changing the coils, I'm replacing with Z Power parts shown. Is this a resistor? There is only one mounted under the right coil, cylinder 2/3. Do I still need it? It would have been like this since the late 80's when the frame ...
