Re: Another Z650...
Back to the Turbo bike, the stanchions of the ZXR750 forks had been rechromed at some point in the past.. badly. At 43.15mm they were too thick to work correctly. They were taken to Dynasurf in Sandbach, where the chrome was removed and reapplied correctly, this was much cheaper than buying new stan...

Using a Z1000J transmission in earlier crankcase?
I'm told that a Z1000J transmission can be used in an earlier engine, ie Z1000A1, if the bearing on the output shaft is changed.. from OD 68mm to 62mm. Anyone know if this is the case, and if so does anyone know the spec of a suitable bearing? The only reason for doing this is that the J transmissio...

Re: Another Z650...
For this project, its having wheels, brakes and forks from a 2004 Yamaha R6, which is the year before the model switched to USD forks. I choose these donor parts as I like the 5 spoke wheel design, which are also impressively light, while the 43mm forks and 4 pot blue spot calipers are some of the b...

Re: Another Z650...
I bought the GPz 750 engine I've had my eye on, the engine last ran 24 years ago, but it turned over ok by hand. It wasn't long before it was striped down. https://i.imgur.com/0MFlAyO.jpg The engine came apart ok, had a problem with the oil filter bolt, as it was rounded off. Had to chisel it off in...

Re: Starter Clutch rubber spacer Not available??
I endured -3 in my unheated garage today and measured the gap between the start clutch and the crankcase, and its clear I need the smallest 6.3mm rubber damper spacer for the earlier crank in my 78 Z1000.. cheers

Thanks for the offer, your not too far away from me either. If I may, I'll wait a few days to see if a new one can be found.

Re: Starter Clutch rubber spacer Not available??
Z-Power have the larger version in stock, but not those for the smaller, earlier cranks.
Those US prices are so much cheaper than here. Will investigate further. Cheers.

Starter Clutch rubber spacer Not available??
I'm slowly building a Z1000A1 engine from a pair of empty cases, and I've now hit a problem. When fitting the rotor/starter clutch, there is a need for a rubber spacer which sits behind the starter gear, it comes in 3 different sizes. But it appears to be no longer available. Therefore what have oth...

Re: Another Z650...
While over Xmas, I bought a 78 650 frame, complete with all important V5, which is the start of a new project for me. I only bought a frame as everything else, apart from the bodywork will be changed. The goal is to get the bike down to 400lbs dry, with over 80 bhp, along with modern suspension and ...

Re: Z650 / 1100
Still plugging away at the engine build, lots of delays when I realise I'm missing yet another dowel, seal or special bolt. With the cases bolted back together.. 2nd attempt.. the oil pump was fitted, then the sump. The sump plug didn't fit, as later realised the sump was actually from a later J or ...
