Re: Seized - Snapped bolt

Quick update. All done. The stones were shite. The ends kept coming off in the shaft but a combination of stone and carbide tips and a bit of patience and it’s all re tapped and ready to clean and paint. Now anyone want to give suggestions on the painting process? Is it worth tackling it myself or b...

Re: Seized - Snapped bolt

Thanks both. Dremel it is. Stupid question but what brand of burr can you recommend. Got a set of tungstens to cut some alloy recently and burned through like 8 in an hour. An Amazon type link would be great?!

Seized - Snapped bolt

Hi all So when removing the lower crank case bolts, one snapped off below the surface. I managed to get an easy out to grip and started extraction. Sadly, the easy out also snapped. I got the casings back today from aqua blasting and he wasn’t able to extract it either. Can I get some advice, hints ...

Aqua Blasting

Evening all I was wondering if anyone would have the time to list all the parts from an engine that should be sent off for aquablasting. I have done a complete strip down of the engine (early 73), just need to clean off that gaskets and I believe she’s ready to go. So my first question is: 1. Which ...

Re: Oil Change Question

Well, I’ve now jumped in with both feet on my first complete strip and rebuild. Gulp. So happens that the cam chain guide had simply - well - disintegrated!! It wasn’t pretty in there but I can imagine it could’ve been a damn sight worse. Thanks for all the help so far. God know I’ll probably need m...

Re: Oil Change Question

Thanks popsa1

So looks like it’s a common fault (one of the only ones) of the Z1 and Z1A.

So my question now is, what is the easiest way to replace the chain guide? Do I have to strip the engine down or is there a shortcut?

Re: Oil Change Question

Ok so I decided to drop the sump and cheap out the sludge. Not sure if I’m special but I found this ‘thing’ hanging out with it’s little bits of shrapnel mates. What is it and can I assume it’s not meant to be there [image][image][img][img][/img][/img][/image][/image]

Oil Change Question

Hi all. First post and wanted to ask about flushing your engine when changing oil. Early 73, only had her a couple months and doing some housekeeping. Got new filter and Motul 5000 10/40 semi synth. Drained sump (destroyed original sump plug in the process). Anywho what came out was like thick and b...
