Z1000J 1982 "Pandemic Project" SOLD

Hi Chaps. After 6 months of blood sweat and knuckles I thought I would see if there was any interest in my Z1000J. You know what its like when you finish these projects, you walk in to the garage and there's nothing to do and you start thinking about the next one!! TBH when I got the J I was after a...

Re: Fuel tap.

That's not so good, especially at 150 quid!! Apart from that did you notice any improvement in any areas, starting, pick up to full beans etc ?? In short no, I'm running Mikuni RS34 flat slides with 125 mains, the standard J tap flows enough fuel for these and doesn't leak. Thanks for that, I will ...

Re: Fuel tap.

My Z1000J tap did the same as your CSR one, replaced it with a Pingle, which has given me a load more problems. I have been looking at a Pingel for my Z1000J, what other problems did you have? I am just looking at replacing as I have doubts over the efficency of the original tap. I've put new seals...

Re: Z1000J Pandemic Project

Cheers for the comments.
As for the Pompey colours, just better be careful going near Southampton then :Oo
Not sure about the chain guard origin as it came in the box of bits with the bike. As mentioned not a straight bolt on though.

Amazing the power of the Birmingham screwdriver (hammer!!)

Re: Bizarre Speedo Issue On Z1000J

It didn't even look that bad but under closer scrutiny you could tell it was fook3d.. Like I mentioned I get the drop in feeling now but I'm not sure if its enough as the speedo is not twitching when on the centre stand. When I had it in hand, like you said, the smallest movement has the speedo movi...

Re: Bizarre Speedo Issue On Z1000J

And of course the speedo receiver (tagged bit) is no longer available...aaahhhh... :sad Does any one know if the cable speedo receiver (tagged bit) can be modified (dremel) to work with the electronic type as this is still available. I would imagine the wheel bit is the same but it just looks bigger...

Re: Bizarre Speedo Issue On Z1000J

I might of found the issue. On stripping it all down again I put the pegged wheel drive into the speedo assembly and turned it by hand. Low and behold the speedo is twitching and I can hear the crunching from the odometer, even at slow speed. When I build it all back there is no certain drop from th...

Re: Bizarre Speedo Issue On Z1000J

Thanks for that. Ive just been for a 15 mile run and not a flicker until about 12 miles in and it started working, albeit waving like a flag in a force 10. I'm going to check the wheel drive is located and the tabs are not damaged or worn. There is an odd noise coming from the front wheel after the ...

Bizarre Speedo Issue On Z1000J

Well here goes On my Z1000J 82 I have replaced the wheel sensor (off a working system), replaced the odometer and have a spare speedo. I have done all the electrics checks found in the manual and found that the signal coming off the orange wire was always giving 5volts or above and not reducing when...

Re: Z1000J electronic speedo drive

Sorry on the late reply.
Thanks for all your responses, I have managed to bag one.
Let's just hope it works and it isn't any of the the other bits in the system
