Re: Misfire/lack of power
I suppose if it does the same thing again, at least I'll know where to look. A tenner won't break the bank. The ones I have seem to be Japanese in origin but could be fake of course.....I'll search some more for the real thing.....

Re: Misfire/lack of power
Hi Warren Thanks for that - they were the below - which "seem" to be made in Japan. Where would one buy the Denso make? I looked on various sites before Fleabay and found nothing... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115284721079?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%2...

Re: Misfire/lack of power
I am very pleased to report I have just ridden the bike very quickly up my very convenient, quiet test hill just outside the village, and I can report all seems well. In fact far better than before! It pulls like a train. The problem did indeed appear to be condensors, and in all probability, one of...

Olly
Yup -the only thing that has changed is the fuel fill up. I will indeed drain the tank/carbs and refill. All a bit odd. I have never experienced bad or water contaminated fuel which has had such an effect. I thought I had filled it with diesel at first!

Misfire/lack of power
Gents 78 KZ650 has performed wonderfully since restoration a year or so ago. I took it out on Friday and it ran beautifully. Saturday another spin, but this time filled it up with super unleaded as normal. After that, bike runs fine until you give it some throttle at @ 4500 rpm and it hesitates - so...

Blasting and re-chroming
Gents I have the opportunity to purchase another z650, but it is in a bit of a state. Some questions if I may. The cylinder head could do with a vapour, or possibly bead?, blast to remove all the surface oxidation/corrosion. What is the form here please? Obviously remove the head, then what? I was t...

Re: 1000R engine paint
Years ago there used to be a black engine spray paint called ( I think) P41 or some such. It went on really well and lasted. It also gave a nice sheen, rather like oil on water effect. Looked really good on a GS 550 I used to have. Don't know what happened to it...

Re: Needles in carbs
Yes - certainly the case that some carbs have the small springs holding the needles and some do not. Can't think the vacuum would hold them down as the vacuum would pull them towards the engine if anything. I don't think it is a big deal, but I just wonder that if the vertical play is too great then...

Re: Needles in carbs
Cheers for that. My concern though is that if the needles have vertical play, that clearly could affect their position in the jet holder - if they move about vertically - and thus affect the mix.

Needles in carbs
Gents I have a spare set of carbs - Mikunis - and noted that the needles have a small degree of vertical play (about 1mm or so) and "wobble" about somewhat when the air vlave/slide assembly is pulled from the top of the carb. Is it deterimental that the carb needles have this degree of pla...

Carb query
Gents I have some 40mm Keihin carbs from a larger and more modern bike - not sure what. Not therefore possibly Kawasaki related so apologies, but studying the pic below - does anyone know what the orifices and brass fittings are for below the inlet - as per the red arrow. Not a great pic, but you ca...

Cluch refurb
Bit of a forum hijack so apologies, but the principle is the same as a Z. Gears difficult to engage on the 66 Triumph Bonnie. First especially. Usually due to clutch plates failing to disengage. So, out come the plates - 12 off, 6 plain, 6 friction, Splines on the basket dressed off with file - a fe...

Re: Static timing Z650
Yes - I reset it to mid slot then adjusted each breaker plate. Never used a dwell meter, nor really a strobe much either to be fair. Some say that if set statically correctly there is not much to be gained from fine tuning, others swear by it. As aforestated, it does run well and I don't rev the pro...

Re: Static timing Z650
Hi Warren Since sorted. Bit of a dumb question really. They should be spot on. Timing plate was at its maximum travel in the slots so couldn't turn it any more! Since fiddled with each breaker plate and managed from there. What I was getting at is if accepting dynamic timing with a strobe is the bes...
