1974 Z1-A for sale.
A new project beckons, for the necessary cash and garage space the Z1-A is going to reluctantly have to go, to be honest these days I enjoy restoring bikes for the sake of it - I have 3 but can only ride one at a time. Ideally I want to put it on the market after Crich (where you can see it) but if ...

Where was the Show?...
At the Sycamore, between Stalybridge and Ashton.
Note that I have figured out the 'Helmet Hook' and am using it as Ben intended...

Baby's First Bike Show
Sunday I popped down to the BMPS bike show nearby, the first show I've been to on the Z1-A since I finished her. https://i.postimg.cc/VLFx9xxX/IMG-5481.jpg Best in Show! Maybe next time I'll bring a bungee, so I can strap the trophy on the headlamp, like Marlon Brando in The Wild One. I stuffed it i...

Re: Z900A4 low speed issues
Float levels? Cheapo pattern float valves? Genuine ones are very expensive, but made a huge difference when I couldn't set the levels properly.

Re: Z1-A debut
I went up to Lancaster and back on Saturday, around 150 miles round trip, to see my Mum. She didn't fancy a ride on pillion. https://i.postimg.cc/90ZkJRDL/IMG-5469.jpg The bike went well, very smooth and no issues. By the time I got back it had done 500 miles since going back on the road after the t...

Re: Drab olive finish
I looked into getting my old and tatty carb bands done. The fly in the ointment was a £50 minimum charge, and I couldn’t think of anything else that needed to be drab olive, so I bought a new genuine Kawasaki set instead. Sadly, although genuine, they are no longer finished in drab olive, they are d...

Re: Z1A Restoration
The Pingel arrived and got fitted, the difference in output is like night and day, I won't be using the fuel tap as a main jet any more! I was very concerned when the side panel didn't fit, the outlet blocks and handle were in the way. some trial and error found one (and only one) position where you...

Re: Seat Lever Z1A
Shut, i.e. with the lever horizontal.
Don’t tighten the fastening bolts until you can get the seat to latch first.

Re: Z1A Restoration
I ordered the Pingel from Suzuki Performance Spares this morning, who replied to my query last night in minutes. So no point trying to improve or fix the PMC one. It is brand new, so not worn or clogged, and no blockages where I can see them. Also I've been informed that, although dearer, they are s...

Re: Z1A Restoration
Thanks. I’ve just had the tank off, no sign of blockage at the cap vent, but with the tap open, and the cap, fuel comes out of one outlet as a stream, but out of the other it’s a pathetic dribble. I think that’s my problem, at speed the fuel flow to carbs 3 and 4 doesn’t keep up, until the fuel leve...

Re: Z1A Restoration
I thought that, but the failing suddenly at speed, then being mysteriously alright again, seems more like fuel starvation to me. It feels very much like running out of petrol, apart from the getting better again bit. I’m going out to check, but when I tried to drain the tank recently it dribbled out...

Re: Z1A Restoration
Just back from a 50 mile ride out, yesterday I did 70 miles going to Three Sisters circuit and back for a spot of karting with a few of my mates. Here's the bike at the top of Holme Moss admiring the view. https://i.postimg.cc/1zPcJZFM/IMG-5420.jpg Basically, the bike is running perfectly, very smoo...
