Re: Kz900 camshaft bearings

Some of mine were very similar to the one in your photo. I posted on here and told they were fine.
They're back in the engine now and no problems....

Re: Z900 A4 fuel leak any ideas please?

Hello Graham, as Grog has stated you have to use the gauge valves to restrict airflow, i.e damp the needle movement. It is important though that the needles still flicker a little to get an accurate response/reading - don't overdo the airflow restriction. Ideally the readings should be within approx...

Re: Z900 A4 fuel leak any ideas please?

Hello Graham, I balanced my carbs last weekend. It was a little more difficult than I anticipated as every time I adjusted one carb it had some effect on the others. The one main thing I found was that when I had them all nicely synchronised tightening up the lock screw changed the setting so adapte...

Re: Z900 A4 fuel leak any ideas please?

I'm not sure if its some form of optical illusion but, as Zed9 says the lower inlet cam shell appears distorted or not supported (can be seen in the first/top photo).
It almost looks as tough some of the casting is missing?

Re: Z900 A4 fuel leak any ideas please?

Hello Graham, Just to throw one more variable into the mix but did you have the choke plunger seals replaced? If these are still the originals they will have hardened or possibly cracked. In this condition the will allow fuel to bypass possibly causing the rich running you're seeing. When I did my c...

Re: Drive sprocket locking plate

Thanks Rob - I've just looked on Ebay and found some versions of the sprocket cover without this feature at all - just the shell.
So this along with your go ahead I feel confident to go and pick a slot drill form the cabinet!

Re: Drive sprocket locking plate

Thank you for the reply Gus but that's the lock tab washer for the original 630 sprocket.
The 530 sprocket on comes with the 2 x M6 holes and it's as hard as granite son very difficult to drill.

Re: Drive sprocket locking plate

It was all all going well with my new sprocket locking plate until yesterday evening when I came to fit the sprocket cover... Inside the sprocket cover casting there is a raised cylindrical feature approximately 50mm in diameter that centers on the sprocket. When the sprocket cover is fitted this cy...

Drive sprocket locking plate

Hello all, I thought I would post this in case it might be useful to anyone else who has run into this problem. As part of my build I decided to fit a 530 chain set to my Z900 A4 but I couldn't find any satisfactory method of locking the nut in position. The 530 sprocket has two m6 tapped holes on 4...

Re: Z900 A4 Starting( or not) for 1st time after full restoration

Hello Graham,
I think that I would resolve the issue with the two carbs not receiving fuel before anything else.
Assuming that the carbs are operating ok and delivering fuel and you have power to the coils and the plug is sparking it has to be a timing issue of some sort?

Re: Fork Stanchions rechrome or new.

I think that it might be worth emailing these photos across to Philpot's and follow up with a phone call. He was really helpful when I spoke with him.
Perhaps he might do a deal if you've got three sets to to refurbish in one go.

Re: Fork Stanchions rechrome or new.

I can certainly see your point regards the much higher costs, particularly if using original parts is not important. After all you'll still have the original parts if you need or would like to get them refurbed at a later date. As you say the pattern parts are sure to be serviceable - it would be in...

Re: Fork Stanchions rechrome or new.

I'm not sure how good the chrome is on pattern forks?
The decision might hinge on how much the bike will be used and also how original you would like to keep it.

Re: Fork Stanchions rechrome or new.

I've just looked back and the Z900 forks were £195 in May 2021
I think this included carriage back to me but were originally sent at my cost.
