Re: Z1000a Big bore head gasket

Either Debbens (01425 474628) or SPS http://www.suzukiperformancespares.co.u ... askets/64/ should be able to help with either an MLS or copper head gasket for youre size bore depending on what you want.

Re: 998cc Piston Rings Yoshi / Z1000j

Just measured some standard J piston rings on an existing (worn) piston. 69.4 mm (these particular ones at 1.00mm oversize) Top ring (very worn) 1.00mm dead but quite loose fitting Middle ring 1.2mm Bottom oil control assembly 2.35mm measured outside to outside of hard rings. You'll be aware of the ...

Re: Head Gasket

The four 'O' rings go under the gasket. Reason for the bigger holes is to allow some oil through there for the head feed. The 'O' ring fiasco is a failed concept. Dont bother with them. If you want to use the fibre Cometic gasket get four 'Machine' washers (the type with a bevel on one face). Put th...

Re: Harris Build

You could try and give Ray / Steve Debben a ring and see if they can do anything with the threads. They really do know what they are doing and if it can be fixed they will be able to do it. Not seen anything they couldn't fix as yet. 01425 474628

Re: Valve seal

If the pistons and bore are 300 miles old then you could expect those figures to rise significantly as the rings bite in a bit more. If its the same comp ratio / pressure on all cylinders then you may well have a valve stem seal adrift assuming everything else is well.

This may help. Its another project that faced a similar issue to yours and shows a possible solution.

Re: 1973 Z1a

It depends very much on what you want! Genuine Kawasaki parts from the usual suspect; ZPower, Cradley Kawasaki, Z1 enterprises etc. Aftermarket repro from; Saisei, Zpower, Z1 Enterprises, Legend Motorcycles, M&P Swansea, Keyster etc. Aftermarket tuning; Debbens, Grumpy 1260, Dyna UK, Talon, etc....

Re: Valve seal

For reference 105 PSI is 7.5:1 comp ratio.
Thats pretty low and starting / overall performance may well be affected.

Re: Base Gasket Problem?

If you greased the base gasket and it wasnt leaking before you removed the head then i would guess; no harm done. Oil / grease similar thing. I put mine on dry and they are impregnated with wax which sticks the gasket to the crankcases and the barrels. When iv'e removed the head and tried not to dis...

Re: Valve seal

Agree how long's a piece of string?!!! If youre planning to take the head off anyway, i would suggest the barrels as well. You only want to do it once and whilst possible, you will be lucky to get the head off without oil coming across the face of the base gasket. I have Vesra or Athena valve stem s...

Re: Harris Build

Ratchet straps are good, Debbens use a modified G clamp, i made this from scrap and its fine.
I usually end up doing a couple of those threads each winter. Thought i would have done them all by now. :D

Re: Valve seal

Exactly how much smoke?? If its got an oily plug it would have to be the inlet valve seal on #1 If its a moderate amount of smoke i'd say valve stem seals but if its copious amounts more likely broken ring, score in bore, oil control assembly incorrectly set or as seems to be the case most often a r...
