Re: 1981 KZ1000 CSR / LTD Project Complete !

Looks great. Better than the original LTD or CSR ever did ! Top gear roll on description reminds me of the Bike Mag road test back in the day, something like "will pull from just over 1000 revs in top, accelerates like a jet fighter up to 5500 then takes off like a rocket" ! Those LTD moto...

Re: Mag wheels on a Z1000

35.5mm (always good if you can get somebody else to confirm / agree but this size should be correct I believe) On the odd occasions in years past I've found the odd c. 0.5mm thick washer fitted in this position just to get the disc centralised in the calliper slot but we're talking 45 year old bikes...

Re: A4 carbs help

Thanks for confirming those jet sizes Mally - good info for other members looking for jetting advice. Before Air Corrector Kits turned up 120 Mains and 17.5 pilots was the way most of us went with a 4 into 1 and K&N's (or bellmouths). Its a good starting point especially with VM26's. Some disagr...

Re: A4 carbs help

Looks like a thorough rebuild. Can I please just check / confirm pic.4 shows a packet marked 4 x 120....
Are you running 120 Main jets ? and 17.5 pilots ?
With an air box or with individual pod filters ?
This would be useful information to confirm thanks !

Re: Z650 Special Revisited

Nice job on the carbs :up Looks like a bit of hard work ! What did you use to shift the black paint ? I've a clutch cover here I've coated with Nitromors twice now but it seems the modern stuff just doesn't work - its only rattle can black I'm trying to shift - it'd be quicker to just scratch the pa...

Do you still have standard type callipers fitted - I remember you were posting last November about fitting some upgrade 2 or 4 pots ?

Re: Help with spoke length for a 18" front z1000 wheel.

It's easy for me to sit here and write about it - The hard work is doing the job !
It would be good to see it when its done - I never much liked that narrow front rim myself. If I ever find the time I might build one myself....

Re: Help with spoke length for a 18" front z1000 wheel.

Just thinking a bit more a out the idea of using a standard back rim; if I look at the "disc side" of the standard back hub then the diameter is not much different to the front hub I think.(?) On this side I'd expect you'd probably be close enough to lace up to the front hub with the spoke...

Re: Help with spoke length for a 18" front z1000 wheel.

Yes ! Thats an 18" front I used on my own Z1000 together with a standard 18" rear. Downside is its only a 1.85 which limits tyre size a bit. I ran the bike on it for a year or so back in the day though. Its actually just a KH400 wheel  As for using a rear rim on the front, I'm no whee...

Re: Quick Sense check on Final Drive Ratio

What ZED1015 said. You already know you need a higher ratio (numerically lower) With a 530 chain you might try a 38 Tooth rear sprocket assuming you can get one to fit your wheel / sprocket carrier and then for z650/750 there are I believe front sprockets in the range 14 to 17 teeth as standard whic...

You could try 1975 KH400 front set  - possibly same as KH250 same year.

Re: Help with spoke length for a 18" front z1000 wheel.

Looks like c. 178 ~ 180 mm inner and outer.
Thats a standard looking chrome rim on a Z1000a hub and measuring the assembly with a tape measure. Middle of dia. of cranked end of spoke in hub to back of the nipple. Should be right give or take a mm
