Re: Z900 A4 Clutch

The clutch was terrible on my A4 - found the wrong springs had been put in previously. Replaced them and also fitted new plates (soaked in oil overnight) - superb now :up :)

Re: A4 Piston Movement

Long story but the W shaped cam tool pinged out when checking valve clearances /shims and pretty sure it's bent the valve Cant see that being the problem, it would just be like the valve slamming shut. No external forces applied apart from the closing force of the spring Gus I could be wrong ( wife...

Re: A4 Piston Movement

if the valve is bent , you may be able to test it now the head's off. With the park plugs in, Turn the head over, so the combustion chamber is facing up and pour a tablespoonful of something runny ( paraffin or white spirit might do ) into the chamber and see if it runs out. Fill all 4 chambers so ...

Re: A4 Piston Movement

Somebody else will be able to quote you the piston to bore clearance that is normal and acceptable ( which you will feel as a looseness of the piston in the bore) , for a cold engine ( which will tighten up as the engine heats up) The questions I would ask are - does it smoke? Does it use oil? is i...

A4 Piston Movement

Hi all, Long story but I'm trying to get my A4 100% 'right' before the weather gets better. I'm happy to have a go at most things on bikes but know my limits and a good mechanic mate popped over this afternoon to take the head off as he suspected a bent valve on no. 4 exhaust. The bike looks to have...

Re: Resistored Plugs and Caps

Resistored plugs and caps are fine in a modern ignition system. In a ignition system that's designed and with components that are 50 odd years ago it's a totally different scenario. The ONLY reason Kawasaki put a resistor in the ignition line was to suppress interference of analogue TV and radio si...

Resistored Plugs and Caps

In the process of trying to figure out why my A4 isn't running better and not sure if this has been covered before but thought it might be of interest to others? I 'upgraded' my standard NGK plugs for iridium ones (which are resistored) and replaced the caps with 'resistor - type' new ones. I've sin...

Re: Clutch Bite Point / Lever Movement

Update on this for anyone having similar issues? Stripped the clutch to check the springs and friction plates. Not too bad at all but bought new EBC replacements anyway. Then found that the EBC springs were shorter than the ones I took out with a different number of coils - after putting everything ...

Fuel Tap Blanking Cap

I need to remove the fuel tap from my A4 tank and blank the threaded entry off to clean and treat the tank internally and from what I've found, I believe that the thread for the fuel tap is 22mmx1.0mm? Struggling to get anything like this - could always use a tapered rubber bung but I wondered if an...

'New' A4

Well, my Z1R has finally gone after 26 years of fun (to a very good home!) and I've had the summer to tidy up and settle into owning the A4 that I've always wanted. Got repro clocks on at the moment - anyone got a set of ND's going spare?.....

Love both these bikes! :up :up
