Re: Z900 A4 Engine rebuild yet again!

Thanks zed9 for suggestion, no camchain wasnt replaced last time but was thoroughly tested with no appreciable wear and its a DID so may have been replaced in its past. When i split cases for vapour blasting, maybe should have done it then, but reasons i didnt were down to: 1. there supposed to last...

Re: Z900 A4 Engine rebuild yet again!

Hi Warren, he advised the bores were partly worn but not oval. But would benefit from a rebore hence thats now done. Whilst its good questioning why, think that horse has long since bolted now, the fact is its now rebored and honed and everything will be as new, the question i raised was is there an...

Re: Z900 A4 Engine rebuild yet again!

Warren seems to think i may have measured it incorrectly. I was taught to 1st use fingernail on top of bores to feel for ridge (none present that I could feel), next using torch look into bores to check for damage, scoring or scratches ( again none present), then check pistons for damage, scoring, b...

Re: Z900 A4 Engine rebuild yet again!

Thanks for replies, No one actually suggested it, I took head in to engineering shop as valves guides very worn, they advised new guides and exhaust valves, inlets deemed to be ok, head pressure tested and skim. If you remember from my original post there were some hairline cracks on the seats ( adv...

Re: Starter Brushes

Hi Mark, had a look at those brush sets there mega expensive for what they are, back in the day we bought slightly larger ones then from a car starter, as far cheaper then using coarse then fine sand paper filed them down until they were a sliding fit in the holder. Works perfect at a 1/4 of the cos...

Re: Z900 A4 fuel leak any ideas please?

Afternoon Guys, Firstly let me start by saying a big thank you to all who contributed in helping me solve the original leak issue, it proved to be poorly made pattern parts. I ended up buying full new Keyster gasket kits from Nigel and replaced everything from the kit, this cured the overflowing car...

Re: z1000 a1 splitting rear calliper

When i rebuilt my Suzuki GT750 had same problem with the brake allen bolts too, i found an air windy gun ( impact type) or even the battery type invaluable it undoing subborn bolts. If the heat doesnt work try one of those, just make sure you have the correct size allen key bit and its impact suitab...

Re: Size of main fuse

There are 2 similar posts, i replied to the other one, as also had blowing 20a main fuse on my A4, however it coincided with faulty voltage reg ( 15.7v) which i replaced with combined unit and that seemed to stop issue, however it may well be attributed to short on headlight bowl, no idea if mine or...

Re: Z900 A4 fuel leak any ideas please?

Hi Al thanks for reply in answer to your Qs yes peg in crankshaft is original and looks to be not bent, yes the advancer has the 2 what look like magnets on the weights still intact. To be honest if you look at my photo it looks in a lot better condition then the 1 in your photo. But mine has 005 st...

Re: Z900 A4 fuel leak any ideas please?

Been at it again today, spoke at length with Warren re lineing up the points, mine just refuses point blank to line up as it should, Firstly set the points gap at 0.4mm, then bulb across Earth and the points spring part, turn engine over using spanner, if i set the left hand set ie 1 and 4 i can get...

Re: Size of main fuse

Thats correct 20amp is right size of main fuse. Mine kept blowing the main fuse on my A4, turns out voltage reg was faulty allowing 15+v bought a new combined unit problem sorted. Well worth checking with a decent volt meter. Another issue may be a short to earth, as other reply you need to give mor...

Re: Z900 A4 fuel leak any ideas please?

Hi Guys well removed timing cam plate as Gray suggested checked For marks as per photo (Is this advancer the correct part for Z900 A4?), nothing on mine at all there is a dot but nothing to line it with on cam, the cam is free to fit in either position which is strange, however as i have no idea if ...
