Hi, when you put another washer under the float valve seat did the float still move freely? You sometime have to put a chamfer on the seat to allow it to move freely. An alternative to the second washer is to fit a Yamaha XS 750 needle float valve. They are fractionally longer than the Kawasaki ones...

we haved been experimenting with black finish for Z1 cases.
The best we have found without a doubt is Xylon. It is teflon based, heat, fuel resistant and is bordering on indistructable. It will be more expensive than some paint cansd though.

The plastic bit is held on by 2 screws which are hidden under the plastic cover in the bottom of the chamber.
Once they are out, it just pulls off.
There's an o ring that makes it seal - but its not available from Kawasaki.
I have got a spare one that has been Xylon coated if you need one.
