The original parts were anodised in black satin and there are people out there that offer the process.
Some restorers now Cerocoat them which is more durable than paint.

They are double skinned.
More importantly, keep the carbs balanced and mixture correct to avoid blueing, too lean will blue the exhausts.

One on right is Z1, left is Z900.
The Z1 items were upgraded to Z900 type as they used to split around the hole.

With the service that Rob Meggit offers with the choke plungers that should be the starting point once the carbs have been cleaned.
