Re: Z900 A4 fuel leak any ideas please?
Hi Gray; As per Warren's post (and Ultim8's earlier chart) for jet sizes - someone's been fiddling. Flat ends on the air screws are correct. Fuel level gauge is a good idea - £20 or so from ZPower. Choke plunger refresh also a good idea, but unlikely to be the cause of your immediate problems unless...

Re: Z900 A4 fuel leak any ideas please?
Hi Gray Sorry you're still getting grief with this. Just looking through your last post - I assume the screws you mention on the lower bowl side are the drain screws? As long as there's no fuel passing there they won't make any difference to your problems. The air mixture screws - happy to be correc...

Re: Z900 A4 fuel leak any ideas please?
Oooh! Oooh! Liking Warren's idea to blow down the tube to check for leaks - but why stop there? Leave the bowl full of water/fuel as shown. Stick a bit of pipe over the inflow end to give your nose clearance from the fluid. Finger over outflow and blow. Bubbles in liquid? Deflated cheeks? Cracked pi...

Re: Z900 A4 fuel leak any ideas please?
Hi Gray; As per most of the replies abouve, most probably the float catching somewhere - I had it on the No.2 on mine after a carb refresh. Turned out that the float was JUST fouling somewhere on the float bowl (my money was on the new gasket being just bigger than the old, though not noticeable to ...

Re: Hydraulic clutch conversion ?
Hi Phil1r Are you set on a hydraulic conversion or are you just looking to make the clutch easier to use? I asked a similar question earlier in the year (also about a Z1R) and the easiest recommendation was an easy-clutch kit. I've attached my thread - there's also another thread from chrisu linked ...

Re: Large Shim tools.
Hello mate; Yep, got something similar, except mine has a knurled grip instead of the ball on that one. Works just fine once you get the knack; top tip is to either make sure your hands are free of oil, or wrap a bit of blue roll or similar around the grip so you can get a good purchase. Oh, and don...

Re: Removing back brake plate brake stay bolt
If you'd rather have penetrating oil in a tin rather than home-brewed I'd recommend Plusgas. Works a treat on most stuff - give everything a good long soak, then as already mentioned a bit of heat, patience and some creative swearing

Re: Wiring Z1R help please
Hello mate; Philippe is right, the second pic is of the connection for the stop light failure switch. Has it got a switchy looking box hanging off one end? From memory it should be under the tank near the LH frame tube. I've had a look at the manual for the US versions and the spare 4-pin connector ...

Re: Z1R Metmachex swing arm
Yes, reckon a plain spindle will be OK if you can find one with the right dimensions. Just a thought - you could build up a key on a different spindle with liquid metal or somesuch - it's not doing anything structural, just allowing you to rotate the LH eccentric so any sort of raised bit that fits ...

Re: Z1R Metmachex swing arm
No probs; I've had the bike 30-odd years - it's substantially less than standard (and still a work in progress :D ) - but we still get about a bit. The spindle has the 'woodruff key' machined onto the LH end, so it's not a separate part - the idea being that as you rotate the eccentrics they both mo...

Re: Front Forks too stiff
Hello mate; Got a non-standard front end in mine so can't give you specifics, but I've recently rebuilt the forks using Hagon springs (they were very helpful in sorting me out with random requirements) and Motul10w oil, and I'm pleased with the results. As BAFF says, best bet is to get stuck in and ...

Re: Z1R Metmachex swing arm
Might be a bit late to this - you've probably either got it or not by now! Anyway, here's a piccy of my Z1R complete with Metmachex - and yes, it's stamped Z1000. Of note - the torque arm off the original arm didn't fit the mounting on the new one (the casting is too wide to fit into the 'fork' of t...

Had a two day window of half-decent weather before back to rain tomorrow, so made it to Scourie (up in the NW) for a couple of nights. Nowhere better when it's sunny, but when it's not... Re: Kickstart conundrum
You know what, just ignore me. I'd no sooner pressed 'send' than it occured to me that it was naff all to do with the bike, I was having a serious case of brain fade. :down OBVIOUSLY the kickstart won't engage with the clutch lever in. :D Iv'e not had a drink yet, but I think I'm about to start.
