Re: Shift drum neutral position

Checked as per Gray’s suggestion, looks good to me, lines up exactly with the sensor hole.

Shift drum neutral position

The gears are definitely in the neutral position, having checked full 1 to 5 movement by spinning gear with drill and going up and down the box with the gear lever. My question is, the shift drum face position looks at odds with the pics in the manual. The metal gap is at 9 o’clock where as it is ab...

Checking Gear Backlash

When trying to complete the check as per manual pic below, it seems impossible to hold (by hand) the drive shaft gear in a fixed state so you can check the backlash on the output shaft gear. The DTI gauge is all over the place. Have people successfully managed this check and what method did they use...

Thanks

Crank Services Recommendations

I have asked elsewhere but trying again.

Can anyone recommend a good crank services guy in the Yorkshire area, or perhaps further a field? They seem thin on the ground for bike engines.

Checking for true, balance and weld.

With thanks

Re: Oil Pump Main Gear Play

Thanks for jumping in Gray. I will answer your questions as best as I can. The pump is out of the engine, so your suggestions re installation / fit to crank are n/a in this case. I am asking about the main gear on it's shaft. So possibly the central hole in the main gear is worn, oval or otherwise. ...

Thread chasing / cleaning

Cleaning out the Crankcase Threads with chasers after aqua blasting........ Am I right in saying that the three threads used in the cases are M6 and M8 Are there any smaller or larger than these that I have missed? Looking at the design of thread chasers online.... is it enough to take a couple of o...

Re: LTD Engine Refresh

Thanks Zed and R3.

Timesert kit very expensive.

If going for a Helicoil kit can anyone recommend a “good quality kit” as suggested…. I would not know good from bad.

Re: LTD Engine Refresh

So suitably recovered from over consumption and a mild cold… I got on with cleaning out all the threads after the aqua blast. I noticed a well mangled spark plug thread in the head. The bottom half is good, is there an argument to say that, if the hole is cleaned up a bit, that there is enough threa...

LTD Engine Refresh

What: KZ1000 engine Why: The parts have lain scatter around the garage taking up space for too many years So I have started to tidy up the place by rebuilding the engine, no real strategy here. I might put it in my existing LTD, might sell it… might try and put a special together? Anyway, amazing ho...
