Re: Carburettor Jets

Interesting that the 1000 mains are much smaller. I guess the other jetting changes compensate? Either that or possibly the Z1000 4-2 exhausts are more restrictive than 4-4 z900?

Personally, I would stick it on a Dyno.

Re: Carburettor Jets

All I know is from 40 years of practical hands on experience which has served me well enough and while theoretical findings are all well and good they don't allow for the variables of each individual engine, their state of tune, type of exhaust fitted etc. With a stock 115 main and the over bore i'...

Re: Carburettor Jets

Fascinating stuff. Not questioning the wisdom of folk who know better than me, but just to continue the discussion.... " The number stamped on a main jet cooresponds to the flow rate of fuel in cc/sec when poored from a height of 50cm. So a 120 will pass 120cc/sec in this calibration test .&qu...

I hate not understand stuff so I have been doing a bit of reading and thought I would share what I have discovered for interest The number stamped on a main jet cooresponds to the flow rate of fuel in cc/sec when poored from a height of 50cm. So a 120 will pass 120cc/sec in this calibration test. In...

Re: Carburettor Jets

I am not totally convinced that main jets have a maximum fuel flow, theoretically, I think this is determined by the pressure differential before and after the venturi?

I have to bow to your practical experience on this one before my head explodes :sta :fire2

Z1000 swing arm sleeve - what is the difference?

Two different part numbers listed for Z1000 A1 and A2. Does anyone know the difference if there is one?

Re: Carburettor Jets

More air sucked in means more fuel needed. I am probably over thinking, or over simplifying the science on this. Does an engine that is 10% larger in capacity not draw air at the same rate as the smaller engine revving 10% faster? If this is the case, the rate of air flow though the carb bores will...

Re: Carburettor Jets

Good question ... Everything being equal, the air fuel ratio would remain the same. However, at high revs there is going to be some loss in volumetric efficiency resulting in less efficient combustion and unburnt fuel. It may actually mean a leaner mixture is needed at full throttle. I would be inte...

Re: Speedo cable

I have heard that turning the fork legs to mount the calipers behind can force the speedo drive downwards, hence a longer cable is needed. Since you have turned them back the drive should go back into the correct horizontal position.

Hope this helps.

Re: Pot 3&4 running very hot

Thanks to everyone who posted advice on this problem. A mate of mine who has worked in a motorcycle garage came and checked out the carbs and much to my shame I still had a blocked jet on pot 1 but biggest problem was I had not set the float heights correctly, rookie mistake. Bikes now running well...

Re: Pistons

Why not ask him what make they are and where they come from?

Impex pattern ones from Japan are good value for money.
