I have successfully soldered carb overflow tubes in the past, cleanliness is the key and a pen torch, see no reason why should not work there.

I would say that the grey wire is gona be the voltage sense wire which is the brown in the multi plug, This is a switched live in the loom and " monitors" the battery voltage, in the past I have attached em direct to,the battery + with no ill effects, this just means in effect you will be ...
