End of an era for My Z1

The time has come to let my last & best Z1 go on Australian eBay # 202290078052. I've had a few in my time and they have been the talking point of my life. Thanks for all the help given from this forum and others. It seems a long time ago when we argued over trivia, like... "was the pillion...

Re: Carb refurbs.

Word of warning when getting too particular with restoring carbs...
Don't get the main spindle re-chromed (particularly on the early "flat top 28mm carbs). It is so hard to get them assembled after this small increase in diameter due to chroming.

Re: Z900 a4

Go for a standard restoration, You can still have a few mods, like, a 530 chain & sprockets, a DynaS ignition and 29mm Smooth bores, just to give it a lift from being boring!

Re: z900a4 side stand needed

Pretty sure that the LTD is shorter than the A4.
Also, the ltd has a "Club-foot", meaning it has a thicker base on the ground.

Re: New Chain & Sprockets

You may find a slight problem... That is on the front sprocket (18t) there is often, no locking washer hole, You may have to fashion something to lock the sprocket. There is two threaded holes on some front sprockets, it just requires a bit of sheet metal work to make the lock washer.

Re: New Chain & Sprockets

Alfacity, as Floydez1 suggests, 530 chain is the way to go, withy equivalent sprocket.

Re: Z1B top yoke

Chrisw1, there is a difference, although the geometry is the same...
It requires a different mount for the speedo & tacho and instrument lights.
Better off waiting for a Z1, Z1a or Z1b to come up on fleaBay.

Perhaps the decal and Caution Sticker, under seat will give a clue?

Re: chain and sprocket kit

The 530 chain conversion used to be explained well on the Z1 Enterprise Site. I've used it often.. For example with the 530 chain for a Z1.... The rear sprocket is 42T and the front is 18T with a chain length of 110 links. Whereas, the normal Z1 630 chain has 92 links with rear sprocket 35T and fron...

Gordon, the modern tyre does not require these "rim-locks". The trouble is you have to do something about filling the hole and stop the rim tape and tube wanting to bulge through the rim hole. I've usually made up dummy bolts & nuts to to fill the hole, ensuring I have smoothed the ins...

Thanks Zed1015, I was unaware of the 2 bolt sprocket mount and indeed the Hyvo chain on the "J". I wasn't particularly after performance gain, but rather, more or less, general use of these camshafts for the Z1- Z1000 A1 & A2 engines.

Swap sprocket on camshaft

Does anyone know if you can fit a Z1R, Mkii or "J" (inlet or exhaust) camshaft to a Z1 to z1000A1 engine, simply by removing the 32 tooth sprocket and replacing it with a 30 tooth sprocket? Throws would be geometrically in the same position! RegardZ. PS I will be away for a few days over X...
