Re: 1973 Z1-NOISE IN MOTOR

To help isolate the noise you need to have the bike stationary but running and in gear with the clutch disengaged. This will prevent any gearbox components from rotating. If the noise disappears it's gearbox related and if not then you know to look at the crank etc. I would check that the starter mo...

Re: Yoke material

They are cast STEEL.
You can weld via Gas, Mig. Tig or Arc.
Probably best to use ARC in short bursts to build up a new stop.

I wouldn't get hung up on HP figures but set up right i recon that spec should produce performance about on par with my Z1R .

Re: z1 cams

Specs for the Andrews X2 cams are in the link below..
They are fairly mild, no need for a big bore and will run with stock valve springs.

Re: Camshaft degeeing

Plenty of "how to tutorials" on the net if you do a google search.
Some are more clearer than others.
Here's a couple that should be clear enough.

Re: Pistons / Barells

You can easily go to 1015 cc (70mm) on the 900 liners.
Even sneak them out to 1045cc (71mm) but the liners end up about as thin as taking the 1015 block to 1105.

Re: big bores

Rob what do you think the z1r bhp is making To be honest I haven't a clue and don't really care about hp figures and knowing what it produces won't make it any faster. As long as the motor runs clean and smooth i'm happy but if pushed i'd say it's got to be over 100hp compared to my stock 90hp Z1R....

Re: big bores

The GPZ1100 unitrack achieved around 145/150mph at around 104 to 120 HP (depending on what you read) in what was a fairly mild state of tune. A motor with 1075 @10.25 -1 with a decent flowed head and/or some fast road cams (or UNI cams), 28 to 31mm carbs and a decent 4-1 pipe will get you something ...

Re: 1.5 ohm Dyna coil fitting

For what bike ? Most zeds use 3ohm on points and 2.2 ohm on ic ignitors. You can only use a higher resistance coil not lower otherwise you will overheat components. The only use for the 1.5 ohm on the big zeds is to run 2 pairs in series to give the equivalent of two 4 pole 3ohm coils for use on due...

Re: Andrews cams don't fit

Either the guides are not the short type (original oem bronze are too long ) so that valve keepers/retainers are bottoming out on the top of the guides or the head hasn't been clearanced around the bucket bores and the lobe tips are hitting the head and preventing the cams from rotating. Either situ...

Re: GPZ1100 b2 buckets -will they be OK in a Z900 ???

You can use the Unitrack buckets but you need to use the smaller 13mm under bucket shims and retainers also ( same as the Z650 ) . All the other GPZ1100's and 1000J use z900 type shim on top buckets and 29mm shims so i'd stick with those and avoid the inconvenience of having to pull the cams at ever...
