can we see a pic of the paint around the filler, definitely sounds like that is your problem

looks like fuel has got under the paint around the filler

I fitted ZRX1100 yokes to my z1100r no problem, same bearing sizes, dont mix and match zrx11/12 yokes.

Take the gear lever off tighten the bolt slightly and run a hacksaw blade through the gap this will then allow the clamp to tighten up slightly more which should then grip the shaft.

as above probably worth opening it up and checking the brushes etc
