Re: Eddie Lawson Resto Mod

I have finally managed to get back in the garage and I've made some progress on the engine assembly over the past 4 weeks. I'm adding some pictures showing the progress. The only tricky part was getting the camshafts correctly positioned. The crank tended to want to rotate slightly as the cam chain ...

Re: Eddie Lawson Resto Mod

Another update. Well the weather was above my 10 degree cut-off so I planned for a day of garage work and probably the last for a while. The task today was to get the new Viton valve stem seals in, valves back in head, replace cam bearing shells and then bolt in replacement camshafts and check valve...

Re: Liner on Cylinder #1

Thanks for all the suggestions. I popped it in the oven and heated to 200 DegC using support blocks, the liner still needed a gentle tap with a soft mallet as suggested by Nigel. I think it should now be fine. Glad you got it sorted. Don't forget to check and fit some new o-rings on the bottom of t...

Lovely bikes, always wanted either or both over the years. Nowadays the riding position is just too extreme for me!

That's a great job you have done there Kev and the bike looks very interesting.
BTW, what is the exhaust you have fitted? I just can't make out the writing on the can.

Liner on Cylinder #1

I'm looking for some help on the best course of action to take with regards to the liner on #1 cylinder. I only just noted that it stands slightly proud of the block and the other 3 liners. Looking at earlier photos it would appear that this was also the situation when I disassembled the block 12 mo...

Re: Eddie Lawson Resto Mod

Replaced the cam chain, old one was quite stretched. Played around with gearbox selection, putting it in second then worked it up to 5th and then back down to 1st and ending in neutral. All seemed to be working as expected. After the gearbox check sealed the crankcases up and fitted the bottom end i...

Re: Eddie Lawson Resto Mod

With the painting season over I decided I needed to make a move on the engine. All threads had been checked and cleaned, however one on the engine casing that fixes the sprocket cover/clutch release had a problem. The thread was OK, however it had been "fixed" previously but not square to ...

Re: Z900 A4 sticking clutch

I have experienced a sticky clutch release and found that the clutch pushrod had some very small wear groves on it. I replaced it with a new pmc clutch pushrod and was stunned that the clutch release was now as smooth as new. Very quick and easy to check the clutch pushrod condition. Any slight grov...

Re: Eddie Lawson Resto Mod

Finally the weather has been warm and dry for the past week or so. I've put in some effort to get all the main items of a black colour painted with a range of different products. 1. Wheels painted with Techniq speed gloss black and clear lacquer. 2. Swing arm, steering stem and forks painted with Ha...

Re: Eddie Lawson Resto Mod

It feels like i'm turning a corner finally. I took the frame to the paint strippers and was more than happy with their work. I've previously used blasting for the frame, but the chemical bath method seems to do a pretty good job, especially in the difficult to get to areas of the frame. I picked the...
