Re: Eddie Lawson Resto Mod

Started working on the seat recovering a few days back, in fact I've found it much trickier to recover than I expected. I don't think it helps that the seat is stepped. I first tried securing the front inside the pocket and then pulling the cover to secure the rear. I found this tended to cause the ...

Re: Eddie Lawson Resto Mod

Excellent work going on there. I have this task to complete on my bank of carbs. I'm more nervous about this job than pulling the motor apart. Any lessons learned/tips gratefully received. Cheers My tips would be:- 1. keep items from each disassembled carb in separate containers. 2. An ultra sonic ...

Re: Eddie Lawson Resto Mod

I've been working on an old set of BS34s that I purchased as not working, slide#4 was seized solid and a little butchery had been done by someone using a screw driver to try and pry it free. Anyway how time flies, it has taken me 8 days to do the strip, clean and rebuild. Cleaning was mainly done us...

Re: Eddie Lawson Resto Mod

I managed to get the rolling chassis completed today before the weather turns wintery. A couple of pictures of progress to date showing what fits with what. I spent a good deal of time after Xmas trying to work out what might fit, what wheels looked good and items that could be used with minimum cha...

Re: Eddie Lawson Resto Mod

Any idea why someone cut the front face off the rear engine / swingarm mount bracket LHS? Seems a bit randon unless there was an outrigger support welded on there for the drive sprocket! AL Hi Al, I have no idea or info as to why but that is how the frame came, but I expect you are probably correct...

Re: Eddie Lawson Resto Mod

Then a quick check in the frame, put a 3D printed bush in the swingarm to simulate bearing and sleeve. Also put on some old Z650 shocks to see how it fitted. Also shows that the left shock mount of swingarm needs to be moved inwards.

Re: Eddie Lawson Resto Mod

project has been slow but trying to gather a selection of bits a pieces to put a rolling chassis together...Anyway I have an XJR1300 swingarm that needs a slight chop to get it to fit. I decided to have a practice with some aluminium tube and jig made using 3D printer. The results were OK so I decid...

Re: ZRX1100 /1200 Steering Stem

Why do you want to use a zrx stem, I used a j stem pressed into billet yoked for my Lawson. Not sure iff a zrx stem would fit. Rob As far as my investigating goes it shows that both J and ZRX share the same sized steering head bearings hence it seemed an easy route to go rather than have billet yok...

ZRX1100 /1200 Steering Stem

I'm looking at fitting a ZRX steering stem to a Z1000J frame and wanted to know if there are any differences in the top yoke design between the 1100 & 1200 models. I'm not worried about fittings for ignition or instruments, I would like confirmation on the geometry for the forks. ie can you have...

Re: Eddie Lawson Resto Mod

Clutch friction plate is in back to front, others also perhaps. Outer dished part of the sprocket lock mechanism is on back to front. It has a double hex which locks the head of the bolt. You can masking tape across the front face of the rotor drum after a good clean up and fill the gap with ordina...

Re: Eddie Lawson Resto Mod

Split done & mock-up of parts:- Split done with clutch basket and alternator still attached, thanks for the help on that one. This is the first chance I've had to put the engine in the frame with the engine mounts supplied by Z1OC member. Thankfully the engine fits correctly into the frame witho...

Re: Eddie Lawson Resto Mod

Bottom end work. The alternator rotor was covered in hard red sealant / glue. The sump pan was full of the red bits that had dropped off the rotor. I guess this is a replacement magnet that someone has attached to rotor with the red stuff? Anyone come across this before? First time I've used the eng...
