Thanks.
The difficulty is in getting the pinion in - even on its own, without the housing.

Replacing Tacho Drive Z1000

I had an oil leak from the tacho drive on my Z1000A.
Having replaced the oil seal and o-ring, I now can't get the drive pinion back into the head.
Is there some trick to getting it back in?

SRM wheelbuilding - any good? Suggestions?

Having sourced a decent rear hub for my Z1 (thanks Keith), I am now in need of a wheelbuilder. The build will be with a stainless rim and stainless spokes. SRM seem to have pretty reasonable prices - has anyone here used them? Were you happy with the result? Does anyone have an alternative suggestio...

Best source for braided hoses for twin disc Z1?

My Z1 currently has a "race" front brake hose arrangement, with separate hoses running from the master cylinder direct to each caliper. I am looking to change back to the conventional arrangement in which a single hose runs from the master cylinder to a fork-mounted splitter, with each cal...

Complete Z1 rear wheel or just hub and brake plate

I have a Z1A with alloy wheels which I want to fit with conventional spoked wheels. I have found a newly laced front wheel with a new stainless rim, but need to find a rear. I would be happy to buy a wheel that needs rebuilding, as I am interested in appearance rather than authenticity! But obviousl...

Al,
Thanks for the update. It sounds like an excellent result for not a lot of money. I think I'll give this a try on the Z1A.
What shock absorbers are you using?

Z1parts.net list a pair of "mufflers" but I don't see downpipes. I don't know whether these are an accurate copy of the silencers for an A1. $700 a pair.

Al, I'm pleased that you have found a good solution. It would be good to hear how the bike handles once you've got the new parts fitted. Thanks for the details of the two RaceTech suppliers - I'll be paying a visit to PDQ. The prices seem pretty reasonable. Coincidentally I came across an article to...

That sounds like the perfect solution - apart from the cost! I don't know whether anyone sells Race Tech products in the UK, but their "Gold Valve Cartridge Emulator" kits have a good reputation. http://racetech.com/html_files/vintage_testimonial.html They cost about $170, and Race Tech ca...

Rear wheel (+brake) front axle clamps + centre stand for Z1A

I currently have alloy wheels on my Z1A but want to switch to wire wheels. I have a newly laced front wheel with stainless rim and spokes but as yet have not found a rear wheel. I'd take a complete hub and brake assembly in good condition or a complete wheel. If the price is right, a wheel that need...

I have Hagon progressives fitted to my Z1000A2. At least with the supplied oil at the recommended level they have made the front end very harsh. Would be fine on a smooth racetrack, but with the tired roads around here it is no fun at all. I weigh about 95kg ( too many pies). Until I read the excell...

Chris - that's news to me! I joined them long before I joined the Z1OC. They still have a decent magazine and they're hardly expensive.

Nice bike: the paint is excellent! I'd get a quote from Footman James - especially if you are (or would become) a member of the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club. I think they are happy with some performance mods. I pay about £150 to insure 4 bikes fully comp, agreed value, unlimited mileage with bu...

What a gorgeous bike! It has to be one of the best looking Zeds that I've seen. Sanctuary would have been happy to have made it. Looking forward to seeing her in the flesh in April.

Dave, thanks for the reply. I'll give the Simoniz paint a try on the cases of my RD350B.
