Re: Z1 valve seal replacement

thanks for the tips …… seems I have some exhaust valve seats that are pitted too much to lap out and will need cutting ….. probably a bit specialized with the tool to match ….. any contacts in the north east for this

Re: Z1A valve shims

OK breakthrough ………. took the head off and shone a light combustion chamber side ….. light shone through when valve should be shut... not sure if bent or just wants re-seating …. I need a local expert to decoke / re-seat etc

Re: Z1A valve shims

sorry did not intend to confuse ……. bottom line is cyl 3 exhaust gap was too big in the beginning and adding a thicker shim has only made the gap even bigger

Re: Z1A valve shims

I did have slight resistance when I turned it over by hand but assumed natural piston motion, but how could I have bent a valve turning by hand … either way it looks like a bent/sticky valve and a head off job ….. is this a complicated task ?? I really could do with someone just sorting it for me

Re: Z1A valve shims

thanks for the tip but I already tried ….. all other cylinders have good vacuum apart from cyl 3 … this cyl has 3.05 shim in and the gap is still too big, wanting a 3.20 shim but I feel this will cause even more grief as the valve moves closer to the piston crown

Z1A valve shims

I am in the process of re-shimming my 75 Z1.... most shim needs are between 2.60 to 2.85 …. except cyl 3 exhaust which is looking like it needs a 3.20 shim …….. cam looks ok …. I also have no compression on this cyl but before starting the job cyl 3 inlet had very little gap and no compression ( les...

Re: ZIA revs hanging when throttle is blipped

thanks again for your advice …. did compression test on all cylinders … #3 had no compression all others erratic around 90psi ….. checking valve clearances #3 inlet is zero so is not closing … all others are out of spec … so I have some shimming to do … need a tool now

Re: ZIA revs hanging when throttle is blipped

Latest … pilot & main jets increased to 120 / 20 and lifted the needles a notch …. running better but still hanging on blip …. while the carbs were off I put my hand over each inlet rubber then turned the motor over, all kept a good vacuum until I removed my hand except, cyl 3.... I removed the ...

Re: ZIA revs hanging when throttle is blipped

I already fitted larger pilot jets and idle speed is ok ……. I am contemplating fitting larger main jets as it seems lean mid range revs tend to hang

Re: ZIA revs hanging when throttle is blipped

The idle speed is ok and is easy to adjust with the tick over screw, this was also a problem with idle speed until I fitted larger pilot jets, do you think I need to fit larger main jets also …. do you think mid range is too lean hence the revs hanging
