Re: z1 valve shims
What to do ..... My original theory based on a 1.70mm shim giving me 0.40mm clearance, was to reduce the clearance by replacing the 1.70mm shim with a 2.0mm shim. That should give me a reduction in clearance by 0.30mm ending up with 0.10mm clearance with a 2.0mm shim I could go further by adding a 1...

Re: z1 valve shims
2.60 ... 2.70 ...2.75...2.65 ... clearances between 0.08mm and 0.10mm.... I did not check if the new valves x 2 had been tipped, I am beginning to think not. Anyway rant over .... I will buy 2.15mm shims which should give me top tolerance 0.15, prefer it to rattle a bit than all the clearances disap...

Re: z1 valve shims
OK so this is what I intend to do next ( Cylinder head bench set up ) I found a large penny washer 1.70mm thick, rotated cam lobe to vertical position then measured clearance of 0.40mm ( target clearance 0.10mm clearance is too big by 0.30mm ) by my calculation purchasing and adding a 0.20mm shim sh...

Z1 head build
Hi .....
I am starting a cyl head rebuild and have an issue with valve stem seals
The original ones were removed while the head was at the vapour blasters, the problem is the new ones will not stay fitted to the valve guide, should they latch on the guide or move up and down the valve stem

Re: Z1 valve seal replacement
thanks for the tips …… seems I have some exhaust valve seats that are pitted too much to lap out and will need cutting ….. probably a bit specialized with the tool to match ….. any contacts in the north east for this

Re: Z1A valve shims
sorry did not intend to confuse ……. bottom line is cyl 3 exhaust gap was too big in the beginning and adding a thicker shim has only made the gap even bigger

Re: Z1A valve shims
I did have slight resistance when I turned it over by hand but assumed natural piston motion, but how could I have bent a valve turning by hand … either way it looks like a bent/sticky valve and a head off job ….. is this a complicated task ?? I really could do with someone just sorting it for me

Re: Z1A valve shims
thanks for the tip but I already tried ….. all other cylinders have good vacuum apart from cyl 3 … this cyl has 3.05 shim in and the gap is still too big, wanting a 3.20 shim but I feel this will cause even more grief as the valve moves closer to the piston crown
