Re: Z1 carb finish
Thanks guys, would be great if Dogbollox could post photo of the NOS carbs - I have kindly been sent the following photo of a NOS carb that has satin polished cap and bowl, both items lacquered and understand this was the finish on all 4 carbs for the Z1. When mine were vapour blasted the operator i...

Z1 caliper assembly
I have put repair kits in the master cylinder and caliper on my '73 Z1, bled with no air showing but very soft lever action and not much happening as far as braking. Now second guessing on my caliper re-assembly - is pad A (as described in workshop manual) a firm fit in the caliper holder or a float...

Re: Z1 carb finish
Hmmm... had a look through previous Z1 resto projects and there doesn't seem to be a consensus on what gets polished, if anything. Dug out an old Z1 brochure and the cap and bowl of the outside carbs certainly looked polished so have followed the lead of Daves 73 Z1 Project and done the same. Last c...

Z1 carb finish
Have had the carbs on my '73 Z1 vapour plasted and just wanted to check the finish - recall that just the two outside carbs have the cap and bowl polished - is this correct?

Re: petrol tank clean
I have used POR15 kits on several tanks - these clean, prep and seal and they also have a kit with stripper to take out old manky PVA liners. Cover petcock and sender holes with alloy plates, drilled to take the bolts and cut gaskets out of old tyre tube. Large rubber bung in the fuel cap hole (don'...

Z1 Carb parts
On the last legs with my Z1 resto and working on the carbs - VM28SC's coded 1473. Have stripped them down and had vapor blasted and now looking to replace the felt washers on the linkage shaft (4) and on the individual slide lever assy's (4 total). For the life of me I can't pin these down on the pa...
Re: TT100's
Guy's please, I don't need to be convinced about how good the TT100's look or perform, I just want some guidance on what sizes as the 'modern' sizes on Dunlop TT100's here in NZ are different to days of old and may even be different from northern hemisphere as my enquiries to Dunlop UK have just ref...
Re: TT100's
Philippe, thanks for that I have the standard imperial sizes but Dunlop TT100's here in NZ only come in 3 sizes as follows;
3.60-19
4.10-19
4.10-18
4.25/85-18
so not sure which ones I should use.

Re: Z1 engine paint - Eastwood
FINALLY have the engine repainted with Eastwood and reassembled. Pic during reassembly - area around primary drive shaft is original factory finish as this area was masked off during blasting and repainting. And final reassembled engine. Pretty happy with the outcome.
TT100's
Looking to put Dunlop TT100's on my '73 Z1 resto. Just not sure on the correct sizes. 3.60-19 on the front, 4.10-18 on the rear or should it be the 4.25/85-18????

Re: Z1 engine paint - Eastwood
Just an update for any future viewers of this thread, I stripped back the hand brushed Eastwood paint and got that side redone using spray gun, then checked the match with my original engine before I get it blasted. Behind chain cover casing was best area as not faded or dull like the cylinder and h...

Re: Z1 engine paint - Eastwood
LH side is Wurth, can't get Simoniz here in NZ. Brush marks with the Eastwood because I don't have a spray gun. The exercise was to compare matt finish of each against original plus check/compare heat resistance. I still have most of the litre can of Eastwood paint and 250ml can of activator (only m...

Re: Z1 engine paint - Eastwood
Ok sprayed LH side with Wurth Matt Black Heat Resistant rattle can, RH side brush painted with Eastwood High Temp Ceramic Engine Paint + Activator (hence brush marks). After air drying the Eastwood had a higher sheen than Wurth but after oven curing (while the wife was out) they are about the same a...

Re: Z1 engine paint - Eastwood
Thanks zed1015 - can't find any PJ1 in this part of the world anyway. The Simoniz was always a starter but no stockists in NZ - their European office suggested I contact a Holts Duplicolour stockist here, which went nowhere. Unfortunately the online sellers of rattle cans wont ship to NZ - I've trie...
