Re: S&S Silver Saxon #8

Excellent work Ray.
I bet you were absolutely black after polishing the frame...... I remember doing mine and it's a job and a half!

For contrast of the paintwork, here's the prototype how it was sold to Saxon.

Re: Front break upgrade

BTW, GPz900R calipers fit straight on Z1000A2 for what it's worth, and work a helluva lot better than the standard single piston calipers.

Guilty of them today on my ZRX1100
They do ease the pains in my hands though.

Re: Replace Battery

Just in case you're not taking the piss  Firstly remove the RH side panel and lift the seat up for access. Next remove the fixing and disconnect the earth terminal on the battery. Next remove the fixing securing the hinged bracket, then partially slide the battery out. Disconnect the vent pipe ...

Re: Z1R import MOT requirements

Just disconnect the blue side light connections to the indicators, just behind the fairing.
They have long thin terminals and you should be able to just get in without removing the fairing.

Re: bike cuts out when hot.

This does sound like the pulsar coils, I've come across this scenario loads of times. To check, remove the RH cover from the engine exposing the pulsar coils and ride it around with the cover removed. The air will cool the pulsars and it shouldn't cut out as quick as before. This should then confirm...

Failing that, "Zed man" also offers impeccable service on gauges.

Re: S&S Silver Saxon #8

Will looking at the turbo wheels in the prototype rebuild manual , this looks like the same A flow turbine? certainly not the smaller turbine, this wheel has the extension to the blade before it folds over which I dont think the smaller turbine has ? Ray, the one in yours is the F-flow. I got them ...

Re: S&S Silver Saxon #8

By the way, the speedo drive unit to use is from an early cb750 and its spacing is crucial to working correctly. There should be a 5mm spacer in there too which is not shown in the Rickman manual.

Ray. I take it you've pretty much retired now then due to the progress you're making? Great work and look forward to seeing the end result.

Re: S&S Silver Saxon #8

Ray. You are correct in that S&S pretty much did everything they could using the prototype as a mule. They tried with the standard 903cc, experimented with 960cc and settled with 1015cc. Their main problem though as I found out, was that all their findings were based on the prototype, which thro...

Re: Strange crank case number

As Garry says, should have a raised lip around the edge.
In the 70's you could buy a blank case set from Kawasaki UK.
S+S Performance did just that for their Silver Saxon production run, then stamped them up (badly) with their own unique number like my old bike here.
