Mikuni had changed to sleeves by then.
If you can't find new sleeves take the old ones off, wrap some ptfe tape around the spigot to increase the diameter then refit the sleeve.

Carbs I can do if vm. Wheels I can do if you want rear disc mags or drum spoked rear and spoked front. Spokes are shot and 77 rims are scabby but might clean up. Obvs hubs are good.

I'd go for a stock set of 26's there's plenty off them around. Nice n simple as you say.

Yeah, I know. I was using the later carb syncing as an example that even without the top cap on it made little or no difference to how the bike runs.
Therefore those seals being a less than perfectly airtight is not your issue.

If your asking about the seals on the throttle slide shaft/carb body, I've never seen a rack of carbs that needed them replaced. Any air ingress there would need to get past the slide to reach the throat. After all, carb syncing is done without any carb body cap on with the later bodies with no detr...

Your jetting is vm24 650 sizes which is too small for 1000cc. You've got bigger throats with smaller jets.
Spitting back through the carbs is mostly due to a lean mixture/air leaks.

If James doesn't come through for you I've a set of 26's off a Z1r with the underside idle adjuster.
