Re: How much to rebuild a Zed Engine
Hmmmm, one of those how long is a piece of string questions. It'll depend on what's found when stripping your engine, and whilst it's apart I might as well scenario's. If there's no issues with your built engine and it's a straight pull apart rebuild in new cases job it could done in a longish singl...

Re: Size of main fuse
Used from 76 on Z650 through Z1000. NO. 92071-1008 I've got a Z650 and A4 that has it fitted. Both bike are 100% original. Doesn't show it on the parts diagrams for either bike but does show it on the 1977 Z1000. Have you checked if that's the cause of your issue? If it is then cheap work around is ...

Re: Size of main fuse
20a is the main fuse size. If it doesn't blow with the ignition off then there must be a short a short after the ignition switch. Normal place that wears is where the ignition connector block enters the headlight shell. If the headlight shell doesn't have the rubber grommet fitted the wiring can wea...

Re: Ignition loss
You need to mount the coils directly to the frame using the 2 bolts. The heat is dissipated from the coil core, the big metal bar running Through the centre, via the bolts to the frame. You shouldn't insulate the core from the frame or it'll over heat and fail having melted the windings insulation a...

Re: Ignition loss
I don't see why not. They are seperate circuits for each coil so I don't see how they could affect each other.

Re: Ignition loss
Dyna runs fine on oem black coils. Maybe swop them both back in and test run. If the fuse doesn't blow you have your confirmation.

Re: Z900 A4 fuel leak any ideas please?
I doubt you've broken a ring and think your issues are either timing or carb settings or both. Your comp tests are probably a red herring which are mainly down to sealing issues. Static time it and set the airscrews at 1 & half turns out from seated and you'll no be too far out. Report back afte...

Re: Z900 A4 fuel leak any ideas please?
It depends where the ring has broken (if it has). If it's broken into 2 half's then it'll do little damage to the bore as it wouldnt be able to twist in the bore that much. If it's broken say 10 - 15 mm from the gap the broken piece would have more room to twist and would score the bore badly if tha...

Re: Z900 A4 fuel leak any ideas please?
OK, firstly the inductive strobe pick up. If it's on in the wrong direction for that ht lead you'll get an intermitant signal / flash. The airscrews are on the side if the carb. Think of it as a tube which is partially blocked by the screw. Opening (turning a/c) reduces the blockage and allows more ...

Re: Z900 A4 fuel leak any ideas please?
This explains it clearly Al. Follow the arrow directions although in our case it would be plug 1 & 4 and 2 & 3. I've had this conversation with Graham previously.

Just cut a new one from an old inner tube. If you don't have one your local tyre fitters will have plenty in the rubbish bin.
