Re: Z1000 MK2

MK2 has arrived from Italy. Not in bad shape. 9000km, been stood since the mid 80s. Planning to check it over, get it running, mechanically recomission and a bit of re-painting and polishing here and there. https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/71541976_719130701887698_1877551447436951552_o....

I could do with swapping some too.
Jerry takes a while to respond in my experience.

107.5 and 17.5 is stock.
You shouldn't need to re-jet for your pipe if it's one of the TUV approved ones.

Swirl

If the OP wants to spend a paltry extra £20 then he can feel free to do so.
I'll continue to use the VJMC.

Correct. But why would you pay £20 more to get one from Kawasaki? The VJMC is recognised by DVLA for dating certs and as I said before, their turn around is generally 2 days.

Re: Can I get a confirmation letter

Or it's £25 from VJMC if you're a member and £35 if not. Generally a 2 day turn around.

Re: Carb balancing

To set them properly you need to remove thee carbs, measure/set the float heights and check the fuel heights and adjust accordingly to get the correct fuel height.

Re: Z1B Cam Chain Tensioner

I'd say that if you have the engine apart and it's done more that 25k miles then replace the cam chain anyways and replace the rollers, jockey & guides if needed.

Re: possible cylinder head issue

Bugger. Doing what you did is a no-no. The head can distort if not torqued or loosened as per the factory manual. The gaskets are single use. If you're sure it's the gasket blowing then you need to take off the head off, check the head is still square/level and if it is, replace the gasket. Hopefull...

by keeping the 4 in 2 with the J you have a pardon. But the attempt of separating the original exhaust from a perfectly preserved bike is also a crime. The sentence is life long ownership of a MK2.
