Re: Camchain rivet link - z1000 A1

Hi Andy Very sorry I did not reply sooner. I parked the Z project after I rebuilt the thing Xmas 2023 and haven't checked the forum However - I solved the problem by buying a new rivet link from Z power (I think) that came with the depression already in the pins. So it was easy peasy to crush the en...

Re: Camchain rivet link - z1000 A1

Hello David, I see you have no replies yet and you mention your time is limited ! Normal best advice is fit an endless chain but as you say you already have a split link type which your’e going to use. I have no idea if anyone else on the forum will approve or disagree with the following method, HO...

Camchain rivet link - z1000 A1

Dear fellow members I know this is generally frowned upon - BUT- I am fitting a DID open rivet link camchain to my 76 Z1000 A1. I am refurbishing the whole top end. Rebore, pistons & rings, all rollers & guides etc. Already spend around £1K on parts!! (I am starting a work contract in a week...

Re: Gasket sealant for base gasket?

I always use both dry, just remember to re torque the head after 500 miles. If a base gasket begins to leak you've virtually no chance of sealing it without another top end strip. Thank you warren3200gt I've experienced the leaky base gasket. As you say - nothing can be done once it starts leaking....

Thanks for your reply - Re: tensioner

Will refit then.

Camchain tensioner - refurbish

Dear members
Just rebuilding the top end of my 76 Z1000 A1

I've bought new guides and wheels for the camchain
But am planning on just using the same tensioner

Should I recondition the tensioner unit?

Thanks for any thoughts on this

Best

David

Gasket sealant for base gasket?

Hi All Just rebuilding the top end on 1976 Z1000 A1 I have bought an original Kawasaki base gasket as advised by members here. Should I smear some silicone gasket sealant - Or some blue hylomar non setting type - on the gasket & mating surfaces OR Use the gasket dry - as Haynes manual suggests? ...

Piston, rings and barrels - London expert?

Dear Forum
I think my piston bore clearances are borderline. Ditto rings.
I'm not 100% confident measuring these.

Can anyone recommend someone in London or the South East who could take a look?

Thanks

[quote="zed1015"]Built loads of engines without them in. Doesn't make a difference and they don't prevent ringing as they aren't between the fins just in the base. I sure the holes are remnants of the jigging process during manufacture and machining and the bungs are there to stop debris f...

Re: Z1000 A1 - Cylinder damper rubbers

[quote="Philippe"]Hi David I never paid much attention to those rubbers. I don't know what their use is. It's said they would dampen vibrations... I leave them in as long as they're in, if they fall out because they shrunk I leave them out. If anyone knows why they're in I allso would like...

Z1000 A1 - Cylinder damper rubbers

Dear Forum

A few of the round tapered blank grommets / damper rubbers fell out the bottom of my barrels when cleaning them for re fitting.

Are these items that need to be replaced or can I reuse them?
TBH I'm not even sure exactly what they do.

Thanks
David

Re: Z1000 A1 - Metallic paint or regular?

Hi David as stated before the "Diamond Blue" paint of the Z1000A1 has many shades ranging from dark blue to dark green. It changes depending on the amount of sunlight. Applying the decals is a bit tricky... I've done that a few times so I have a bit of experience but it's always waiting h...

Re: Z1000 A1 - Metallic paint or regular?

Just had mine repainted, so many different versions of diamond sky blue out there, really happy with mine, I did find the paint codes for original finish but I ended up having made up with a matched colour and a blue fleck lacquer .. Pic of my finish which can randomly look blue green and black plu...
