Re: Won’t run on all cylinders
Sounds like you need to start at the start to me: 1 - compression test, check cam timing and valve clearances. 2- probably worth buying a set of pattern coils as they ain't too expensive, new ht leads and plugs, go through the whole ignition wiring against a wiring diagram, try wiring the coil lower...

Re: Tank liners
Tank care products do treatment kits, I've used them twice and had no problems. The first kit I used needed the tank and sealant jollop to be heated to something like 70 degrees C, which was a pain. The kit I used a couple of years ago had been reformulated somehow and only needed heating to 30 odd ...

Re: Did not expect this
Hopefully not stating the obvious here, but this regime has worked for me: I own 4 - 5 bike usually, newest at the moment is an '04, oldest was until recently a '77, usually all in use in the summer. What I do (and it is a faff admittedly) is use the bikes regularly so the fuel in the tank never get...

...faulty relay in the wired george mod so the ignition is staying on whenit shouldn't??? But then the engine wouldn't switch off on the key so maybe not. :rock Otherwise, as the man says, unless its overcharging the wired george mod shouldn't make any difference, no different to bypassing all the l...

Re: New member 1st post
Welcome, nice bike. Those 4 into 4s look nice, but zeds sound like zeds when they're running a 4 into 1. Took the decision not to restore the original 4 into 2 on my Z1000a (admittedly the old 4 into 4s are much nicer than z1000 pipes) and fit a vance and hynes instead just because it's my bike and ...

Re: Z650 carbs
All the 650,750,900,1000 and 1100 aircooled four motors use the same inlet spacing on the head so lots of scope for carb swaps. The distance between the boot mounting holes on the 670/750 is slightly narrower so the boots for the 900's etc need the bolt holes both equally elongating slightly inward...

Z650 carbs
A friend of mine is working on a what sounds like a bitsa z650 with knackered CV carbs. I don't know the year. Has anyone got a usable (or repairable) set of carbs they are willing to part with? Are earlier slide carbs (24's I think) interchangeable with later carbs if the rubbers are swapped too, o...

+1.
The initial cost may give you dry teeth (it did me but I'm a tight fisted bastard apparently) but they are really nice quality and save a lot of arseing about with crap little taps. Fit and forget.

Re: Torque Wrench help needed
Teng torque wrenches are good value and good enough quality, and come with calibration certificates. Ive got 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2" ones. I tested them on a calibrated test rig about 6 months ago and all were +/- 2.5 % which is pretty much spot on for a spring torque wrench. The 3/8 is at least 15 y...

Re: Misfire/lack of power
Some thoughts: Take all the fuel out of the tank and drain the carbs. Leave the tank out in the sun to dry right out. You may have water or diesel contaminating yr fuel. If this doesn't cure the problem it'll at least eliminate it. Could also be that the tank is pressing on an electrical component a...

I'm possibly interested, how does that work then? I assume frame mods are required?
