As already said they screw into the frame with the 'half nut' locking them in place. They will be tight though!
Replacements are available but not cheap - http://www.z-power.co.uk/z900-z1-z1a-z1 ... et-4-front.

Definitely loads of potential there for making into a crackin' Zed.
