Open up the head light, disconnect the replica ones, and plug in the old ones, ( if they worked before the rebuild ) and see if the problem is fixed.. Sounds like a, Thrust bearing.. It's the bearing that separates the clutch, when you press the clutch in.. So when you push the clutch pedal in it dissingages the Thrust bearing, so goes silent... So sorry to say.. A gearbox out, and change it.. And while your there, might as well change the clutch,...

When I got my A4, it had reflectors underneath the tank, but they had lost there sparkle, and not orange anymore, so time for a freshen up.. November week 2.5 update I collected the cylinder block from the machine shop, the new liner is difficult to tell appart from the others.
