Hi, just removed the starter and stripped it down and it is absolutely knackered. It was very hard to turn the shaft and some of the brushes were dust. A wire had broken off one of the brush mounts and the commutator has heavy wear on it. There is a smell of burnt electrical components. So I am goin...

Cheers all, do I have to remove the engine cover to get the starter out. I know it says so in the manual, but the manual doesn't always follow the easiest route.

Hi all, as usual bike didn't want to go to its MOT and wouldn't start. Here is the problem. Starter relay clicks when starter button depressed. I have checked the voltage across the starter relay and it is 12V but drops to 1V when starter button depressed. I have also checked all the cables and conn...

Festival of 1000 bikes

Hi, last weekend I went to Mallory Park near Leicester to take part in the Festival of 1000 bikes. This consisted of 1200 road bikes riding around the Classic circuit on Saturday and watching race bikes ridden by the likes of Ago, Kenny Roberts and Korky Ballington. On Saturday I thrashed my Lawson ...

Chris, I had an alloy steering yoke made so I cant help you with that area, but I used a ZX10 offset sprocket with a washer behind it and the chain lines up spot on. To fit the swinging arm I used the Z1000 bolt and had a spacer made up so that it would fit inside the ZRX swinging arm tube, this mea...

My Z has a daylight MOT all it needed was an electric horn and a reflector, it does not need a rear brake light. However if it has a dual seat it has to have footpegs fitted at the time of the MOT.

Bgb, thats really good news as I thought something had gone drastically wrong. That is an impressive increase just by jetting, so once it is built it will be going to Seastar to be fettled with.

Piggy, running standard ignition, but with a kerker pipe. Once it is sorted I will be fitting my gasflowed head. The plus side is that it seems to go like hell at the moment, when it runs at full power I might need wheely bars

Dyno dilemas

Having gone to the Dyno day and got a disapointing 63 bhp for my Z1170 with Keihan carbs, obviously something is not quite right. I spoke to the chap and he showed me the dyno graph, it climbs quite rapidly and looks like a normal shape graph, but tops only 63 bhp. At full chat black smoke was comin...
