Re: Undercut or worn gears?

Yes! Those are non stock undercut/backcut dogs and look to be in very good condition.
The angle looks a bit aggressive though, usual cut is around 3 degrees.
FYI. The only big Z aircooled four with a factory undercut was the 1100A unitrack.

Re: Starter motor spinning but not engaging?

Didn't realise you meant those bolts. They are unique to the assembly of the Electrex rotor and must not be removed and would not gain you access to the clutch rollers if they were. You just need slip the starter gear from the clutch housing on the back of the rotor to replace the springs and roller...

Re: Starter motor spinning but not engaging?

Just an update of progress today. Pulled off the alternator cover to find a nice new Electrex R099 stator has been fitted ! Great I thought, managed to get the centre bolt out then went onto take out the 3 small hex bolts but couldn’t budge them and they started to burr over which was a pain. . The...

Re: Double the troublezz. AMA style Racecrafters Z1000 and Moriwaki Z1R Turbo.

Cylinder head complete with external oil feed connections installed ready for fitting. Stainless valves in with bronze guides, new viton stem seals, HD valve springs and 1mm spring seat shims to regain the correct spring pressure after sinking the valves and tipping the stems. I've sidelined the Ti...

Re: Double the troublezz. AMA style Racecrafters Z1000 and Moriwaki Z1R Turbo.

Who do you use for your zinc plating Rob? Do they lose anything? I’m getting a bit fed up with things going missing! This is actually the first time i've ever had anything plated and we went to John Street Platers Sheffield who my mate uses regularly. I only chucked my stuff in to make the minimum ...

Re: Double the troublezz. AMA style Racecrafters Z1000 and Moriwaki Z1R Turbo.

Nearly finished with the head. All 8 valves now tipped with just under a mill off each stem, 1mm off the collets and 0.5mm off the retainers. SUNP0036.JPG There's no point in fitting bigger valves if you don't open up the throats and bowls to match so they have both been taken out to 90% of the val...

Re: Z 1015 Engine Rebuild Questions

Three questions if I may? 1. Head gasket and camchain tunnel O-ring.... standard two piece gasket or one piece cometic? Omit O-ring or not, if omit, do you fill O-ring groove with silicon or something like it? A = I prefer the one piece cometic and fill the groove with Vtech rtv sliced flush once cu...

Re: Why are swing arm caps shaped like this?

Because of the depth of the cup the cutaway is to clear the weld at the curved junction where the arm meets the pivot tube.

Re: Engine failure

Could be a number of causes depending on the circumstances at the time of the pressure loss.
Likely suspects if the bike was being ridden are partial heat seizure leading to ring and bore damage or bent valves due to camchain tensioner failure etc.

Re: Double the troublezz. AMA style Racecrafters Z1000 and Moriwaki Z1R Turbo.

All the seats successfully cut and lapped and while the collet chuck was still in the lathe i finished off the valve heads by putting a 30 degree back cut on the the inlets right up to where the 45 contacts the seat to improve gas flow. Before on the right and after on the left. PICT0088.JPG And th...

Re: Double the troublezz. AMA style Racecrafters Z1000 and Moriwaki Z1R Turbo.

It's going to be around 1.3mm off the stems and 1mm off the collets and retainers. All the valves stems are now around the max stock installed height. Much more than that and i would have had to use the 1mm shorter stemmed valves from APE which are availabe for this particular job but twice the pri...

Re: Double the troublezz. AMA style Racecrafters Z1000 and Moriwaki Z1R Turbo.

While waiting for 1 and 4's exhaust valve guides i managed to get all 2 and 3's reamed and the valves and seats cut. The seats for the inlets only needed a light touch with the cutters but the exhausts were all out quite a bit due to the worn guide bores and took a fair bit of work to get them all ...

Re: Double the troublezz. AMA style Racecrafters Z1000 and Moriwaki Z1R Turbo.

Made a start on the head this weekend. Gave it a session in the blaster and treated it to some fresh paint ready for the rebuild . Then proceeded to remove the old valve guides which is when the fun and games began. PICT0044.JPG Already had some manganese bronze guides waiting for this head but on ...

No different.
All the kickstart engines are basically the same Z1 motor.
