Spose the first question would be does the old one fit fine and is it plain or shouldered it , is it the same as the new one in terms of thickness and is the plain collar sitting all the way in the output shaft oil seal, oh and post some pictures and I am going to move this to bike help

Voicing opinions is always dangerous however if its ticking over too high but all else is ok , then mine is you have a slide sittng high & probably needs balancing, I have found Morgan carbtune kits worth every penny

Never dismiss the Newtronic/Pirahna optical trigger system as an viable alternative, although no longer available new, they are reasonably cheap and reliable SH. I have five units fitted they are the same "fit and forget" mentality and I have never had any problems with any of them at all ...

Unless you are 100% sure that your coil power or trigger connections were not shorting due to movemment, or just being too close to the mounting studs then you are chasing ghosts, its always the most simple things that cause the problems because the electrics on these bikes are not complicated howev...
