Re: Restoration of a Gpz 750 R1 (1982)

Hi Garry Thanks for the compliment! To be honest, I don't know for sure. In some leaflets to promote the Gpz750 R1, it's mentioned that it has the special crinckle finish on the camshaft cover, in others it's not mentioned at all. I'm going to give it a smooth black finish and a clear varnish on top...

Re: Restoration of a Gpz 750 R1 (1982)

Hello guys the wheels were cleaned and the rims polished. They were both degreased in aceton and then the taping off could begin. It takes me about two hours to tape the wheel rims off and to make sure they're ready to paint. DSCN0830.JPG They were sprayed outside because the temperature was OK and ...

Re: Engine bolts

That's what I do with all the original bolts, nuts and other metal parts! If you want to buy them new, you loose a fortune! And don't forget there are bolts which are no longer available.

Re: Restoration of a Gpz 750 R1 (1982)

Hi men it's been a few weeks but there's some progress. I've been degreasing parts and removing the old paint and rust. To remove the old paint I use ant acid. Very dangerous stuff so protect yourself with goggles, gloves, etc when using it! Before I put the parts in the acid, I have to degrease the...

Re: Points Housing

Hi Warren

the picture is from the points cover of a Z1100A (ZXT10A). It's the same cover of the Z1000J.
The points cover of a MK2 is the same as the one of the Z1000ST.
It has horizontal stripes and the word "Kawasaki" is on it. The recessed area is painted black.

Re: Z1000H Problems...

Hi Martin allthough I don't have a Z1000 H myself, I think the problem could be the engine temperature sensor, located in the cylinderhead. The wire connection that got loose or the sensor itself that went defectuous. Others on here, who have a H themselves, could give you better information to solv...

Re: Restoration of a Gpz 750 R1 (1982)

Hi guys some more news about the restoration and the amazing discoveries I'm making concerning french craftmanship... If you thought that mounting the pistons backwards was bad, have a look at this: DSCN0397.JPG the piston bolts were secured with this on one side. I take no risks and I'm going to ch...

Re: Time to rebuild my old GPz

Hi Mark

that's a good option! Just make sure ALL the plastic and rubber parts are out before curing the painted carbs in the oven!

Re: Won’t run on all cylinders

Hi Foxy1057 welcome to the club! You've bought the correct bike, the Z1000ST is my favorite too. It's a shame it doesn't run right. The only thing you can do to correct it is start all over again. Find a Kawasaki shop repair manual or download one. Clean the fuel tank, make sure there's no more rust...

Re: Time to rebuild my old GPz

Hi GPZ592 that's the way to do it. Take them apart completely and clean them one by one! When spraying them black, don't forget to tape off all the openings and mount the float bowl, that way you prevent paint to get inside! Use a strong two component paint because the fuel we're using today takes t...

Re: Restoration of a Gpz 750 R1 (1982)

Hi men some more news, good and not so good. This morning I was able to weld the frame. The steel rods did what I hope they would do: they gave guidance and prevented me from making holes in the frame tubes. After the welding I cleaned the frame tubes and I must admit that the welding is not perfect...

I don't think it's possible but one never knows. If someone on here knows how to do it, please inform us.

Re: Restoration of a Gpz 750 R1 (1982)

Hello men today I started cleaning up the frame. In the past a "bobberbuilder" (in my personal humble opinion a bikedestroyer), added several pieces of metal on the frame and cutted off the rear part. I started by removing the added pieces of metal. The exhaust hanger came first. DSCN0232....
