Re: My non standard Z1000A1

The drag race was very close.
My friend had slightly faster response times off the line but my z1000 had a bit more grunt than the z900.
It was 30 years ago but as I recall I won 2 out of 3 runs (just).
I think we were getting about 13 secs for the standing quarter with top speeds just over 110mph

My non standard Z1000A1

My very non standard zed.
Owned it since 1988.
Bit like marmite, you’ll love it or hate it.
When I rebuilt it a while back I wanted it similar to how I had it back in the day with all retro add on’s

Re: Cannot get float heights correct

I'm happy to say I finally got the float heights sorted :D The main problem was that what I was trying was not possible. The Clymer manual showed 3mm down from the bottom of the carb body. The bowls go up into a recess in the carb body so this means it would actually be about 5mm from the top of the...

Re: Cannot get float heights correct

So today I called Zpower to ask for advice on the problem and non original float valves. They said they have sold loads of pattern ones and never heard of problems. I was gonna order one original valve as a test for £31. They said they were about £50 each so their site was wrong. Later today the pri...

Re: Cannot get float heights correct

The floats only foul the bottom of the float chamber if I bend them down a bit to try and compensate and keep the tang as level as possible.
They are definitely the right way up.

Re: Cannot get float heights correct

Thanks for all the reply's. So it sounds like the most probable cause of the issue is the fact I have non-genuine float valves. PaulDonJuan. I guess that's a possible good theory about the floats loosing buoyancy with age. Maybe the fact the fuel properties have also changed since the bikes were des...

Cannot get float heights correct

Hi, I have a Z1000A1 that for a while has been leaking petrol from the carbs where the fuel level is going over the top of the bowls. The carbs have just had a full rebuild cleaning everything in an ultrasonic cleaner. Before putting them back on the bike I am trying to set the fuel heights with the...
