i have sent the v5 off to the dvla which if i remember said it had 1 colour change to red, i have the old style v5 which states its red/gold so dont know if the "change" was having the gold removed.the bike is currently what i would call brown, if i remember correctly pj, you said the pain...

not ready for a long time yet(next autumn prob) but any recomendations for repainting my z1000, as local as pos but if the right job means posting then so be it, the bike is a 1977, what are the correct paint set for the bkie and model ?

it lives :D turns out it was the connection under the tank from the clutch switch....thanks for the help guys, i'm sure you would have got there eventually

looked at the bullet plugs and cannot seem to get power to them with the button pressed byputting multimet into each in turn and also back to batt term, tried jump from the car but still nothing. as the sol is of i will take it to work and get a spark to have a look and confirm one way or another

ignition on or off, button pressed or not the only power i can find is on the main red terminal on the solenoid

Wayno Following on from Pasc,check you have continuity through the coil by testing across the 2 soldered terminals on the solenoid with a multimeter set on ohms you should get between 3 and 4 ohms.
