Re: KZ1000J ELR variation on a theme

Ok, plenty of viewing but no real interest.
Would anyone like to make an offer of what they feel it's worth before I put it on carandclassic at the weekend?

Re: Returning member

Got a Delkevic on my 1000J.
For the price they are very good. Fit well and seem to be pretty good quality.
You can see it here:

They do a different style longer end can too if you prefer that look.

Re: Carbs

A long time ago I managed to seize the oil scraper rings on the middle pistons on my original Z1000J.
What came out of the exhaust was more white than typical 2-stroke blue.
In fact it looked just like Mark's photo.

KZ1000J ELR variation on a theme - SOLD

Painted in Eddie Lawson’s championship race winning colours 1981. This has the original 1981 USA round tank as seen on Eddie’s championship winning bike (unlike the official release ELRs which all came with the square European tank). All steel parts are powder coated, plus newly powder coated wheels...

Re: Piston ring compression tool

Don't know how others on here have faired, but I've rebuilt a few 4 cylinder engines without using a ring compression tool. If the liner has plenty of chamfer on it and you're careful and don't mind losing the odd bit of fingernail you can refit pistons without a ring compression tool. As above, oth...

Re: Cold starting issue Z1000J

Hi rickm try to set the lever of the fuel tap on " pri " a few minutes before attempting to start the engine. Perhaps there's not enough fuel in the carbs (evaporated). GrtZ Philippe Thanks Philippe, that's what I've taken to doing. It may still be related to fuel and the enrichment circu...

Re: Cold starting issue Z1000J

They look clean and tight, although I’ve not actually undone them to clean up. Maybe a good call :up

Cold starting issue Z1000J

Hi, Bit of advice appreciated with a cold starting issue with my 1981 Z1000J. Ever since I’ve had it it’s not liked to start when cold. It will eventually fire up on choke (no throttle) after several (5-10) attempts, and then immediately runs and idles smoothly. Starts up straight away when warm, an...

Re: Gpz1100 caliper

Your caliper brackets are different to the standard ones fitted on my Z1000J, which I think should be similar to the early GPz or 750 ones. Are they custom made and maybe not for your fork/disc combination? z1000j use a completely different caliper the mounting bracket is aluminium on the z1000j &a...

Re: Valve clearance changed

Surely you would only bend a valve if either you force the valve open with the piston at TDC or if you moved the engine position with the shim tool in place (not easy to do, depending on which type of shim tool you're using) ?
