Re: New GPZ1100B1 project arrived today

Couldn’t resist doing the shims and putting the top on with my broken wrist. Was a bit painful but worth it. Engine rebuild is fundamentally done after nearly a year ! Looks much better as well with the UK rocker cover I managed to get hold of. Very pleased it’s done properly and should run well. 61...

Re: New GPZ1100B1 project arrived today

So it’s been a slow year on the project due to time and money but it’s kicked up a gear recently. During the summer I rebuilt the brakes with all new internals where needed. I also rebuilt the clocks which had a murky tint on the inside 70C14800-C75E-4FC1-A81A-83E902F7E9B4.jpeg The original head was...

Re: GPZ1100B1 cam timing advice needed

This is where the T mark was when actually at TDC before I tweaked it

Re: GPZ1100B1 cam timing advice needed

Thanks very much for the advice guys. It’s all sorted. I used a dial gauge in number 1 plug hole to find TDC. Then found there was a bit of play in the timing advancer. Then I tweaked the position of the timing advancer so when the T mark lined up it was TDC. After that I shifted each cam shaft cloc...

Re: GPZ1100B1 cam timing advice needed

Thanks guys.
So are you saying I should move the exhaust cam forward one tooth and leave the inlet where it is so it will then be 45 pins back.
If I move them both forward to keep 44 teeth the inlet will be well advanced especially when the rocker cover guide is in place.

GPZ1100B1 cam timing advice needed

Hi all, Tonight I put the camshafts back in the engine. I followed the manual aligning the cam shaft marks when the timing mark was on 1 4 T. Then I set the exhaust cam as per the manual 44 pins back. All looked good. After tightening it all up I fitted the tensioner and turned the engine all the wa...

Re: powder coating stripping - anywhere near hertford anyone can recommend ?

Yeh Stu.

Took them a pile of 37 tatty pieces and got it all back as shown in the pics.
Went back today with the 3 bits that were not right. They apologised and said they will be sorted by the end of the week. Bit sloppy though they even gave them back to me like that.

Re: powder coating stripping - anywhere near hertford anyone can recommend ?

Just got some blasting and powder coating done a little way out of Hertford in Letchworth at Full Range Finishing Ltd. There was a frame and 36 other pieces plus the frame needed a crack welding near the back. Cost £275 I said the frame number needs to be visible as it’s a US import I still have to ...

GPZ seat re-covering

Hi all, I have a GPZ1100B1 that I’m doing up and it’s not going to be standard. It currently has a tatty non standard seat cover on the plastic base. I want to have an ELR style seat. On EBay I could buy ELR seat foam and cover for £100. Any suggestions on the best approach here. Will the ELR style ...

Re: powder coating stripping - anywhere near hertford anyone can recommend ?

I’m planning on using them as well. Got a big pile of bits to be stripped and powder coated for a GPZ. I spoke to them and they said they have done many bike bits before. I said that I needed the frame number to show afterwards. The bloke knew exactly where I was coming from and said he could accomm...

Loose gear linkage

Hi all, The gear change linkage on my GPZ1100 is loose. There is a pin that goes into the actual gear change arm that wobbles. It looks to me like it is a rivet type fit. Any way to sort this out or should I be looking for a new gear change arm ? 7FFAA1E2-F810-4F0E-B19B-A9E765533978.jpeg CFB32EB3-42...

Fork advice needed

Hi, After battling with a rounded off Allen bolt in the bottom of one fork leg I’ve managed to dismantle the forks on my US import GPZ1100B1. The bits I have don’t match the pictures in the manual and I’d like some advice or different pictures to help me rebuild them. There are pictures below includ...
